I took a look at my HKS headgaskets today, and put together a mini article including several side by side pictures of the HKS unit and the OEM unit.
Sorry, I do not have a cometic gasket around. If you have any information on how the cometic unit differs from the OEM unit, please feel free to post.

Very nice writeup and pics, Ive read the HKS and Cometic HG's are very similar.... Edit-HA I just read your other reply in the other post. How much better are the HKS over the Cometic?

i am pretty sure that the HKS gaskets are the only ones available that employ the stopper ring. I have used cometics on the FI Vipers at work and in Hondas and never noticed anything of the sort. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure they are very alike the stock gasket.

exactly. when you uniformly compress the headgasket with a perfectly flat cylinder head, the pressure will be greater around the combustion chamber as the folded over stopper ring adds the thickness of another layer just right around there.

Great review Charles. I think HKS needs to reinstate your dealer status. I was under the impression that the Cometics also had a stopper ring and were not just a multi layer gasket. Can anyone confirm?

I just looked at a set of gaskets that Cometic supplies us with for our twin turbo Vipers, and there is no stopper ring, or any type of ring. They are much like the OEM Nissan gaskets only with a coating applied to the entire surface.

funny you should ask... i actually did. when i called to check the status on them, they had said to me that they didnt get my order... so i sent in another PO. Then the next day a set shows up, obviously from the first order... but unfortunatly i called and told to forget about the other set.
send me a PM if you are having trouble finding them... there is a wholesaler/retailer that i have been dealing with for 6 years that is great... if they dont have it they are only a short from from HKS and usually get the stuff same or next day. I used them for everything HKS before I was direct, and use them again now that I am no longer direct.
