Default after market headers on built block with turbonetics

Ok guys in process of installing my built long block from Todd @ builtZmotors.. Lookin at the stock headers they look really restrictive.. What do you guys think about changin out the headers with aftermarket.. I got turbonetics single turbo, UTEC, and everything else listed in my sig.. I plan on doing 600+rwhp.. Is after market headers a good idea?

p.s. i know with just the reflash its not a good idea.. but with the utec and higher horsepower goals is it?

Well in most cases the aftermarket headers on the market are not made with spooling a turbo in mind. They are designed for N/A performance. Most people who switched so an increase in boost threshold (the rpm at which you hit full boost). All that being said a set of equal length manifolds meant for spooling a turbo should help some. Crawfords come to mind...

Ugh PIT...don't bother. Those are budget baller headers. Equivalent to Megan Racing.

Try to get a hold of some Crawfords for equal length. I have no clue if they would be compatible with the Turbonetics kit. I just picked up a set of strup headers for about 400 bucks. The NA dynos I've seen show around 15 hp.

Dilon in Michigan was able to install a crawford header w/ modification to the downpipe. He has a bigger turbo also...650rwhp last i remember.

Dil does have after market headers, but I was present during his dyno runs and trust me, he is not at 650 rwhp. In fact, he didn't even reach 500 rwhp because turbonetics sent him back a t60 turbo instead of a t66. Last I knew, he was waiting on his t66 turbo to arrive.

errr not a fan on reviving older thread but i have a question.. the greddy kits have some sort of turbo based manifold here that must help quit a bit for IF correct... so question is if you get that part + an extra piping modification to fit them with the rest of the TN piping.. woudl that work?

I guess it's theoretically possible, but there's really no reason to do anything of this nature. The Greddy manifolds are log-shaped cast turbo manifolds and don't flow like an equal length header would. They are made like this in order to facilitate mounting the turbo in the alotted area.

You'd be better off waiting for Turbonetics to complete the stage 2 kit before using your car as a test subject for any wild modifications.

heheh i agree man... just deciding what to do... since after the engine build the stage2 might be a slightly off the budget and a lot of the other mods i have and deciding if they are worth installing to selll'em

Now that your VQ can breath more efficienctly; like me, I would suggest you wait for the Hydra plug & play to get on the market; it is expected anytime now.

I honestly think SFRs manifolds might do the trick. I don't know if Tim has ever thought of making a set for ST cars but he should.
