Thanks for the replies, everyone. I don't think I'd be able to take a whole week off though, lol. I'm pretty sure I'm going to retry again this weekend. Guess I'll need new gaskets, huh? Oh well, more money....

keep the head gaskets in sealed plastic bags before you install the new ones also. a grain of sand or a metal shaving inbetween the layers would be really hard to see, but could definately compromise the seal.

Well I've got 3 options:

1. Part out the car
2. Send the motor out for rebuilding
3. Send the entire car out and have them do everything, including tuning (which I need if I keep it). It would cost a ****load, but at least maybe I'll actually enjoy the car for once.

I'm going to be getting some prices today.

i love to see the turn around, hahaha. first post said you were done, second one a couple hours later, you were brainstorming a fix, third you were gunna jump back into it asap, now your thinking of putting a ton of money at it, hahhaa. all in less than 24 hours, lol.
i love building cars!! one second you want to take a hammer to all the shiny parts, then the next you will mortgage the house to get the latest parts.
glad to see the turn around, let me know if i can help.

Hahaha, well that's just me in a nutshell. I guess the whole reason I'm not selling it right now is because I would feel like all the money I put in it would just totally be wasted, seeing as how little I've enjoyed the car. If I do anything, it will be to send the car off and have it come back 110% perfect, that way even though I've wasted alot of money previously, at least I'll get my money's worth in the long run, and MAYBE even enjoy the car some.

I feel for you Failsafe . My motor is just about done from getting new HG's and L19 studs . Motor has been out three times with in the last year and a half . And have only driven the car ...like 4000 miles . Im tired of spending tons of money . And to do so , Im going to spend a little more and put in a W/M injection , waistgate set to 10psi , and have someone else tune it . So I can enjoy the car for a while .

why don't you guys drive the car more? All this talk about hardly driving it or not getting much enjoyment out of the car is kinda depressing

It just seemed that there was always a reason not to drive it, either it being down from my horrible fuel leak (which I eventually found and resolved) to just plain not wanting to drive it because of how rich it was running and the awful gas mileage associated with it. Plus, it's been down over a month now just with me pulling the motor to swap gaskets and studs, and now probably another month at least while it gets repaired.

Hey Chris, thanks for the call yesterday. I'd recommend removing that engine and having it professional inspected and disassembled/reassmbled. It is possible there was some prior warpage from the last go-around. I am afriad you might go through all that trouble with a new gasket, only to have the same issue. Let me know if I can help.

I've put a feeler ad up in the cars for sale forum. After thinking about it all day, and getting some prices, reality suddenly kicked in- I just can't afford to keep this up right now.

Dude, if you give up on this, then you'll send out the message that even a build longblock will not be safe on FI. Then I'll never boost my Z. Please complete the project. The forum is counting on you!

....and it was running fine (just really rich) until I got greedy and wanted to tune for more hp and started dicking with the internals myself .

Man, I'm really sorry to see you're going through another FI problem. This is what I don't want to go through. Good luck with whatever you decide. You've already demonstrated a lot of patience with all this crap.
