Default built engine review?

These are the parts I have sitting around and hope to put to use soon
arias pistons, eagle rods, arp main studs, l-19 head studs, farrea 1mm oversized valve train, jwt cams, SVR head modifier, and hope to have HKS head gasket. I live in Texas and am really considering having IMPORTPARTS PRO build my engine. Does anyone have any reviews on Kyle's head work. I know he has from a reputable background. Also where to install and tune? Please be NICE- Thanks

I am not knocking the eagle rods, but damn you're getting a valve train, arias pistons, head work and you're going with eagle rod? From what I have seen people using the eagle rods are trying to save a little and aren't going for big power. I don't know your goals, but it definately doesn't look like your trying to save some bucks. I would reconsider your rods.

I have faith in these China built rods. I haven't heard much about failure of these rods around the 600 whp area. If I am wrong someone please let me know with some hard facts. Eagle rods have been around and there reputation should not be dictated by price.

Seriously how many times do we have to go over the Eagle rods thing?

I dont think he was asking whether he should re-purchase his parts.

Thanks mchapman. I enjoy the posts but can we stick to the questions asked? People have beat the eagle rod issue to death and yes I have purchased a set of the forbidden rods-
But seriously any reviews on the heads.

What is your end question? Are you asking members to review your parts line up?Or your engine builder/tuner, aka Kyle formerly of SGP?

I mean in that case why not go with Wiseco pistons? I haven't heard any failures in the 600hp range either. It's your build you do what you want. I just found it odd that you are getting some off the best parts other than your rods.

Unsubscribing. Good luck.

I for one would have no knowledge...All of your parts seem to be within spec to make Big HP with the right head job and tuning. The only advice I would give is upgrade the Eagle rods. I know thats not what your asking and it has been beaten like a dead horse, however if your doing cams and a valvetrain with headwork, expect to easily make over 600whp on whatever TT kit you choose. Im sure Kyle would also advise of this on such an extreme build up, such as yours.
Im sure your in good hands with Kyle as SGP has turned out some pretty sick cars in the past..Hope this helps.

Thanks for your opinion. I haven't seen or heard of any unsleaved, normal bored Z's with a similar set up that I have pushed over 650 to the wheels. I believe the eagle rods will suit my nonsleeved block well. I don't plan on running more than 650 whp because this seems to be the magic number on a nonsleeved block. I also haven't seem any built engines fail due to rod failure. I don't want to be the first, but I am tired of spending loads of money into my car and just need it to be finished. It has spent more time in the shop than on the street. IF ANYONE HAS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH KYLES WORK ON HEADS, FILL ME IN. Thanks

I'm sorry but I don't have a clue why people on this board trash Eagle Rods. In other communities they are highly respected as a good connection rod.
I've read where these rods are quoted as "unbreakable" and some of the information I've also read say's if you upgrade the capscrew bolts there good to over 850hp.

ARP 7/16" 8740 Capscrew bolts standard (190,000 psi) unless otherwise noted. Optional ARP 2000 (230,000 psi) and ARP L-19 (265,000 psi) bolts for extreme horsepower applications. L-19 bolts are recommended for small block engines exceeding 700 horsepower and big block engines exceeding 850 horsepower.

Some of the rods on the market for these VQ motors are just over kill unless your planning on building 900+ hp maybe.
Anyways I'm putting my money where my mouth is and I have a set going into my engine. I'm not worried one bit..

+1

I have had mine in the car since last fall. I believe I was one of the first to run them. I did research and have A LOT of faith in these rods. I have no doubt the eagles won't be the weak point in an engine build for the VQ. Not only that, they are significantly lighter than the pauters and about 1/2 the price. Saving $600 on the rods and still having a reputable forged internal is a down right bargain IMO.

To the orginal poster, talk to them about what type of warranty they will provide on their build. I would expect most builders to offer a yr warranty on a build. In terms of tune and install, it will depend on your location, but the one thing I will say is have one shop do everything if possible. For example, I would find a shop that has the capability of doing the motor build, install, and tune. You will get the best deal this way IMO. I just don't like the idea of shop A installing a motor built by shop B and having shop A or shop C tuning it. Let one shop be accountable for the work, so if things do go south, you don't have a finger pointing contest.
