I was just out road tuning...and I went to do a pull in 3rd gear...it sounded like my tires were hopping, a whole bunch of vibration..then my third gear was no longer...I was able to drive home fine, evry other gear is ok...

Does anyone have a tranny for sale?

If you can get some good pics of the inside of the Z tranny I'd love to see them, yours is the first I've heard of breaking though I don't spend a whole lot of time on here. Sorry to hear about your misfortune, I know what it's like, trust me (multiple times lol).

 

Sucks to hear. I've heard of people pushing more power than this without breaking it, so I don't think this is the actual limit.

That is some sick power. Almost 3X the stock output.

yah, i know this isnt the limit...but this tranny has seen over 500+ft lbs of torque its entire life of 24k miles

 

Yep. Driven conservatively the entire way, no doubt.

 

Cycle fatigue is often what does it. I see it at the shop all the time.

 

Wasnt GTM making a stronger gearset with straight cut gears and other options?

 

Thats pretty impressive that it has lasted that long seeing 24k miles of over double the car's stock output.

 

Marin Sheared off 3rd gear just like Todd did and Ted took off 5th gear....Damn Todd thats some power...

 

I spend way too much time on here and don't remember hearing of that.

 

Did they break the tranny down and confirm broken/striped gears? With symptoms like that, it could be something simple like a broken fork.

In any case, sorry to hear about your tranny... good luck getting back on the road.

Doesn't anybody make beefed up "bits" for the Z's gearbox? It wouldn't be a bad idea! (hint, hint)

None, I wish somebody came out with some dog gears though....

 

The problem is the angle cut gears the Z tranny uses...Its sometimes very hard to get in gear with these types of gears.If someone made a straigh cut gear the shifting would be much smoother, however i believe you would have to rev match a bit more with these type of gear sets..

 

I dunno what to say... INTENSE and fn' amazing power you're making.. or O damnn sorry bout your Tranny?..

 

I talked to a lot of road racers who have straight cut gears, they say that rev match is just as critical on an "anglur" cut gear. They said that you will just get more noise out of the transmission than a traditional style, and that is the only downside.
