Default Install by Cantrell Motorsports progress (56k beware)

So, the install in going swimingly, built motor by builtzmotors, greddy tt, wastegate relocation by SVRTechnologies, Blitz boost controller ....

and for the pics ....

Yes, the motor was shipped air !!!!

Swapping over all of the piping etc from the old motor takes a heck of a lot of time ...

So, some of you may remember my "strange metallic tinkling sound" thread back when I had my Stillen .... Well, the 3 tabs from the outer edge of the pressure plate had broken off and been flying around my bell housing for about a year. According to JWT, as long as the surfaces have not been damaged I can still use it!!

Ahhh, parts galor ...

I can't wait to hear the Stillen catback with the turbos ...

Yeah, distractions occur but I'm in no hurry

very nice pictures and awesome project. so very very fresh and clean. I remember when my car/engine bay was that clean and new looking, seems so long ago.

best of luck with the project!

BTW great pics of the rails and stuff, I saved every single one of them.

One thing, make sure that you bend the power steering line by the passenger side turbo out of the way. Its a common problem to have it rub on the turbo until it wears thru and leaks. What I always do is bend it away as much as I can, which isnt much, and then I take a peace of that blue pushfit fuel line and cut a slit down it to open it up, slide it on around the pipe, and safty wire it on. That way if the engine moves enough to touch it, its padded and will not wear thru for years if ever).

The crate was awesome and will be winging it's way back to you sometime next week

I'm still looking for a really good UTEC tuner in this area, Scott pointed me in the direction of John Reed at RRev but I'm not sure how much VQ35 experience he has.

I'm gonna get 3 maps done, 8psi, 12psi and 16psi ...

Thanks for the advice, I'll forward this to the installer ...

Yeah they've been cleaning everything, I'm so happy with the install ... from the pics it's hard to believe the car has 24k miles on it

Cantrell does a lot of Porches etc race car building (they even had a Carrera GT in there on one visit) and are super professional (and a wonder to chat with).

im telling you right now, dont even bother with the three maps, you wont like it, i would do a 16 psi map and then a race fuel map if you would like. there is no point in having the lower psi maps cause it feels weird. if you want to go slower, just push down the gas pedal less

for instance, 16 psi will haul a$$ and 8 psi will feel like crap, no need for it!!

Interesting advice, thanks ... only problem is that it rains a buttload up here, 16psi is gonna be NO fun in the rain either ....

Would the race fuel map be at the same psi or just with more aggressive timing?

I personally have one boost setting: FAST...18psi on 101 octane with water/methanol injection, when it rains, my car stays garaged..I'm more concerned with some other idiot crashing into me

you can really have the different tunes setup any way that you would like...if you do decide to have a few power levels, the most common stragedy is as follows:

low boost:
say 9, 10 psi, you can run moderate timing and run on pump gas, good for the rainy days, or daily driving commute

moderate boost:
14psi, stil on pump gas, but when the roads are dry, can probably run same map (depends on which engine management), with the higher boost, the car wil be operating in a different part of the map (retard timing, adjust fuel accordingly)

high boost:
16-17psi: 101octane
further retard timing a bit (not a fan for running near the detonation threshold)

to add even greater safety in all tunes: water/methanol injection, set it to spray at 3psi on up, aquamist makes an awesome setup that controls the spray of water based off of the injector duty cycle.

enjoy!

Looks great. Made me think of 350evo in Cinci where I had my TT installed. Nothing but Porches in the bays except their 350Z race cars. I saw at least 3 Carrera GTs there.
