Infiniti says TN ST voids tranny warranty
I have an 03 G35 sedan 6mt that I installed a TN turbo in Dec. of 05. This car is already on it's second tranny, replaced in Feb. 04, it was very hard shifting into to 2nd when cold. It now has a growl when accelerating in 5th gear. I took it to the dealer and was told that any modification between the throttle body and the catalytic converters voids the power train warranty! Has anyone recieved warranty work to their tranny after installing a turbo?

The dealer has nothing to do with warranty [decisions] unless they chose to lie to Nissan..............later on when the blown tranny get tore down at JATCO lab they may back charge the dealership for deviating from warranty policy.
Why Service Manager has such a high turn over rate at dealerships.
The tranny has a max input shaft power of 333 lb/ft if this is exceeded [pretty obvious in a tear down] JATCO will refuse warranty, Nissan will be stuck with the bill, and look to dealer for reimbursement.
Built in controls to to minimize dealer misbehavior [trying to charge Nissan for what should be customer pay].

I can't blame them for refusing warranty on a powertrain related part due the the turbo system. Some dealerships are more mod friendly than other so you might be able to find one in your area.
I'm also am gonna have to disagree with the statment that the dealership has NOTHING to do with warranty decesions. Mine wouldn't warrant my rearview mirror becasue of my supercharger @ the time.

Sorry dude but once you add an aftermarket turbo, you can't just add a turbo, take it to the dealer and be like, la-di-da, everything is gonna be fine. Its just commonn sense in the modding community. Fact is, dealers, aka Satan will do anything to refuse the warrantee work and a turbo, may or may not have caused any problems with a cars drivetrain. They have a pretty good arguement to refuse work.

see i had that same attitude.. and i said to myself.. why not try.. fck it.. the most they can do is tell me no.. and then i have to fix it myself anyway..
so i dropped it off.. and waited for a phone call.. they called me to tell me they were charging me labor ($400) to remove the turbo to replace the tranny (for free) ..
if i had thought that way.. i woudl have ended up paying out my a$$ to get my tranny replaced.. it doesn't hurt to try

My car is in as we speak for a new tranny.
I had the vortech on mine, the dealer knew about
it, hell they even raised the idle for me because of the vortech.
I guess im one of the fortunate ones.

If the tranny is grinding...and many NA cars do this as well...the grind was not caused by too much power. The grind is caused by worn out synchos, or defective ones.
Have a specialist trouble shoot it for you, or find anothe dealer. There are plenty of cool dealerships that will warranty this out for you.

Mine has been grinding a little going into 3rd and 5th when the engine is cold. It got a lot worse when I changed to royal purple fluids. At this point, I'm not sure if it's the fluid or the tranny that's to blame. I've been considering taking it to the dealer to see what they can do, but I'm not sure. I'll definitely inform everyone here if/when it happens.

Little off topic, but i also found the royal purple synthetic oil to make my valvetrain a lot more tic-ish, wont use it again.

Dealers either follow the written warranty proceedure [in their contact] or lie and steal/cheat and try to fool Nissan into reimbursing them.............why Nissan demands that they keep all warrantied parts for periodic inspection.
If a dealership sells lots of cars, many minor indescretions are overlooked at LARGE DEALERS......depends on the service manager's relationship witn Nissan Zone personel.
If dealerships get caught they may be punished with ugly car color choices, constant nit picky auditing for every warranty claim, delays in special orders, etc.
But in the end Nissan wants to sell cars, so who gets punished by punishing a dealer too much.
Dealers have the trump card in that they can just tell a customer to go away and find another dealer for service...........no law says they have to accept you as a service customer..........there is a minor obligation if they sold you the car at least for 1 year/12 months [the adjustment period].
Ocassionally you can GIFT your way into success.

I talked to the service manager I always go to and he told me that the reason they deny service is usually because Nissan/Infiniti sends an auditor for big things. If you were to blow your engine, an auditor would come in and take a look, and as soon as he sees the turbo/sc he'll deny warranty. The service manager I spoke with knows I'm about to go f/i and he asked me to bring it in so they can take a look (they haven't seen an f/i g yet) and said that if my tranny goes, he'll try his best to replace it for me under warranty. According to him, an adjuster usually doesn't come in for a tranny, so the dealer can get away with it. I'm not sure if he was bs'ing or not, but hey, it's worth a shot. Either way, i'm going to bring in my car to raise my idle when it's done so they'll know I have f/i. Hopefully, he stays true to his word. They've been pretty good to me so far.
