Default Running Rich?

Hey guys, I had my Vortech install completed yesterday, drove it during the day it was running fine, later on that night I took it out for a spin and noticed that as soon as I would hit boost I was emitting white smoke out of my exhaust, and experienced the distinct smell of burning gas, and burning eyes lol. Under boost the car drives fine, but spewing smoke is not cool! I'm bringing the car in today to get checked out, and I'm thinking about going back to cats because the test pipe smell is also noticeabley worse now as well. If you guys have any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks

The Vortech base tune is usually very rich under boost. A retune will solve that issue for you, and result in a significant whp improvement.

Wow, our stock Vortech tune is really rich above 5000rpm, but not like you are reporting! We are completely stock otherwise though.

White smoke isnt a sign of running rich [ that I know of ] . Any time Ive run rich I end up with black soot all over my rear bumper . Ive got two huge black spots on the inside of my garage door from trying to scale my injectors

Now this is weird. The guy from where Im got the kit installed just called me (as he got back from dynoing the car) and said I was not running rich at all, just a little lean up top. He also said the car is not smoking what so ever now? What the hell could have been the problem that was making my car smoke the other day, and now it's fine???

Find out what a little lean up top means. That is that last place you want to run lean.

Default Vortech Dyno

Ok here is the dyno just showing my power curve, I dont have the one with my A/F, and boost. But A/F ratio's check out just fine is what I am told by the tuner. I am a little puzzled by the low numbers though, I'm not complaining because the car is running just beautiful and I love the power curve. Besides the SC, I have the Motordyne 1/2" spacer, Alphawerks headers, Test Pipes, and Stillen TD exhuast. And I also have the Gates 93.5 belt on there. What do you guys think can be contributing to the low numbers though? I did not find out where my boost was at, I know I should find that out. I'm taking her back next week to get 380 Injectors, Walbro 25, and 3.12 pulley put on. Thanks for your help

with out your boost and A/F chart its hard to tell . But the power curve looks like pretty much stock Vortech timing . A big dip in power around 6000rpm's . Do you have a AT5 ?

I would ask for the A/F and boost chart for sure . You shouldnt be running a LITTLE lean up top . If you are , it can be easily tuned to richen it up . You should be able to go to the 3.12 pulley with out up grading the fuel system and bigger injectors

Yes a AT5 will keep the numbers down . And it looks pretty low for a DynoJet . From just the dyno provided , it looks like NO TUNING was done at all . Was it the shop that suggested you upgrade the fuel system ? If it was....you may want to go look for another shop

try to go back and ask them to print u out one with everything on the dyno sheet (a/f ratio, hp/tq, boost level and rpm, SAE corrected). Without everything its hard to tell if the tuner was bad or right on the money.

White smoke is usually signs of a blown headgasket so did u just mistaken it for condensation or a different color (black=rich)?

changes are u just need a better tune to get those numbers up. Also wat gas are u using, 93 or 94?

Yes I should have asked for the AF, boost etc... Will find out ASAP
Well the smoke was more white/clear than black. But it stopped now? 93 gas, no 94 around where I live...
