experience tells me that if I were to have a problem with oil backing up, it would have happened within the first few thousand miles. If you don't have any problems up to that point, you won't have any related to that issue.
It's more important to make sure the return line is all downhill than it is to make sure that it is above the oil line.
Turbos do NOT receive that much oil in terms of volume. They actually use VERY LITTLE oil for lubrication, and the bearings inside the turbo froth up the oil, so when it exits, it's not liquid as it was when it entered, making it less likely that backup caused seals to go.

The AAM return line is quite large as well and does hold a large volume of oil. If the line was smaller diameter, I would think you might get oil backing up a little to the turbo. No issues here with the pan spacer and the AAM return kit.
