Default Vortech owners/Installers...What RPM do you hit full boost...

Hey guys, i was just reading this thread:

https://my350z.com/forum/tuning/214719-vortech-ss-box.html

Makes me curious...at what RPM's does your Vortech kit hit full boost? This would probably be better asked of those of you running the stock boost levels (8 - 9psi)...not upgraded boost kits.

Thanks,
Joe

I answered your question in that thread .

The more rpms the engine turns , the faster the blower will spin .So redline is where you will see top boost

yes you did...and it was your post that got me really curious. I have been planning on going Vortech, but I don't normally drive my vehicle up to that limit. I am more of a stoplight to stoplight kind of fella these days with the occassional romp on some wide open highway.

I am just trying to make an educated decision on FI. One week it's Stillen, the next week it's TN, the next month it's Vortech. The only thing I can say is that I have fully ruled out ProCharger! Ha!

BTW Booger, your posts are always very informative and helpful. Thank you for all the help that you give us through-out this board.

Regards,
Joe

usually superchargers hit full boost at redline since thats how they are designed, unless you run pulley that would reach full boost at 4k then a wastegate to vent the extra boost and maintain the boost level you want. Booger knows what im trying to say here

Has anyone done that with Vortec or a ProCharger?

Full boost is ..... I guess .....what you want it to be . No matter what pulley you have on , the blower will continue to spin faster until you hit redline or the serp belt will no longer hold and slip .

I have tried bleeding off boost ...it works .....but not very well

Just out of curiosity, what are the issues you had with this?. On the surface, it would seem that the concepts and the solutions would be identical to turbos, but I have heard from a few sources that its not that simple. Since you have tried it what was your experience?

I think you end up with two problems . One- boost tends to bleed off to much and two- if you use a 2.87 pulley , the belt has problem holding . At least that was my problems .

does the belt slip with the 2.87 pulley in the higher rpms? So basically u dont boost when u drive bc of this issue? What psi do u see with that pulley?

when you build enough boost to slip the belt , it doesnt lose boost . It just jumps up and down . Right now , mine jumps up and down between 13 psi and 15psi . Mostly 13 to 14psi . But on hot days when the belt gets real hot , it tightens up even more and the belt will not slip as much

I start to feel it really hitting hard at 3.5K to redline and I am pushing 9.5 lbs of boost w/ the 3.12 pulley.

I now have about 6.5K miles on my kit (in 4 months ) and have had absolutely no issues with this kit. I love it and am glad I went this route...

hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but what injectors are you using with that 3.12 pulley? if you're using different injectors, where did you get them and for how much? and have you done anything with your bottom end? how is everything running? any problems so far?

I am still using the stock injectors with no problems whatsoever... My bottom end is also stock. You will need a new belt for the 3.12 pulley... I got the NAPA 93" 6 rib belt and have had ZERO belt slipping issues...

With all I have heard about the 2.87 pulley I am thinking of going with the T-Trim blower and sticking with the 3.12 pulley...

i see...so you haven't had any problems leaning out with the stock injectors? just asking cause i want to go with the vortech as well as the upgraded 3.12 pulley but don't know if the injectors or fuel delivery will be a problem. but i like how you say no problems whatsoever...less things i need to buy

Yeah, My kit has been great. My AFR is between 12 & mid 10's when I am boosting and actually goes from lean to richer the more I get on it so it seems very safe.

I love this kit... Make sure you have a good installer and get a GOOD TUNE.... Also make sure you get guages to check on the numbers... I have the Zeitronix and like it very much.

+1

Can't stress enough how right on Triji is.
Having someone who knows their Z's and Vortechs is SOOOOO important.
It all about the install and the tune to get great results.

I hit around 6 1/2-7psi at redline. Usually I will start seeing 1psi around 2500 or so...and it starts to come on strong around 3.5RPM. I have the stock pulley on an 04 Z.

Full boost is hit near redline, the car really starts to move at about 3.5k though.
