Question Did my boost controller take a chit on me?

I have a Greddy profec B-II set for 10psi on low and 16psi on high, but I am only hitting 6psi on off, low, and high. I have 5.5psi waste gate springs so I think the boost controller is fuked. Is there something that could have disconnected or did the boost controller take a chit on me?

Sounds like it. I'm assuming it's getting power. All you can do is check your lines, wires, and connections. If everything looks good then might be time for a new one.

If I got a different boost controller (HKS EVC) would the car have to be retuned or if I just set the same settings on the new controller would that be ok?

I had to change out the boost controller sharif lend me to tune my car, the greddy e0-1 I had never wanted to work. Anyways I changed out the boost controller out and just adjusted it off the reading I got from my UTEC logger, simple as that. No retune needed.

No retune needed...just keep your eye on the wideband, to make sure your boost ramp rate hasnt changed your AF ratio.

If the boost suddenly died, I would check all your vaccum lines....how much vaccum do you have at idle?

Are all your other gauges reading normally?

i am guessing its a vacuum line, my greddy springs register 5.9 on my profec and boost gauge.

check all your lines, it might even be one going to the wastegates, so check them all...

if the car is running fine at wastegate springs power, i would check from the boost solenoid to the wastegates first

Car is running fine it just won't boost higher than 6psi. One day it was working on then all of a sudden one day it won't boost more than 6psi.

All gauges are fine as well. Unless the boost gauge is fuked up on only reads 6psi which I doubt.

I was having a very similar issue bro. Took forever to figure out and the shop here actually thought that my e-01 took a **** on me. It ended up being one of the greddy blue couplers for the intercooler piping had cracked and wasn't allowing my car to build past 8 or so psi.

^^ How is the HKS EVC 5 better than others? I plan to stay right near stock boost, so would this unit work for me, or is there a better cheaper option? The reason i ask is i've found someone selling one for about $150 cheaper than new around my area.

Yea it might just be a Vacumm line or a coupler. The same **** happend to me. I started boosting only 4 pounds and was like WTF so I made my own pressure tester. All you need is a air compressor, 3 inch pvc pipe caps, plastic reducer, clamps and a air line fitting. Remove your air filters and put the caps on them. I pressure tested mine and found out the coupler that lead into the intercoller from the driver side turbo blew off.

you only need like 10psi max from the air compressor.

i've said it for a while now, the profec b spec 2 is the biggest POS electronic controller made in the past 5 years. It was SO BAD that Greddy essentially reworked the original profec b, rebadged it the profec type S, and put it on the market pretty damn fast after the spec II came out.

So just a manual boost control with incar control. I thought about using that on my Evo, but the general feeling about them (on the Evo boards) was that all that extra length would lead to less than 100% boost accuracy. A buddy of mine runs one in his 400hp Laser and it seems to hold up fine though? I might have to give it a shot.

there is no extra length. The in car portion is controlled via a cable.

Well almost a month later I got it fixed. The connection to the wastegate got disconnected. 16psi feels so much sweeter than 6psi! Funny thing is I was till spanking cars with 6psi. Last night on the way home from work I KILLED both a C6 and a C5 Vette.

I can't wait to get the car back up to Sharif and so I can turn up the boost some more.
