Default strange noise...sounds like a pigeon.

Every time I let off the throttle after light boost (1-3 psi), I immediately get a sound that sounds like a pigeon cooing. I thought that I was being overly sensitive about it, but even my wife asked what the noise is.

It is a fluttering sound, but I'm pretty sure it is not the BOV. That makes a different sound, even at lighter louds. I was thinking that maybe something is rubbing underneath the car, but it feels liek it might be clutch related, somehow.

anyone else have the mysterious pigeon under hood?

oh yeah, I have the TN kit.

Could be the preload on the BOV. Have you tried tightening it?

My Supra made funny sounds when I had a hole in one of intercooler piping connectors. It was a fluttering whistle sound.

Very doubtful. i had this happen about a month ago and figured out that my BOV preload was too light. (I had pulled the BOV to clean everything and messed with the preload adjsuter at that time). Tightening it back up fixed it.

i though about compressor surge, but you don't hear the noise at higher boost levels - when you let off.

It's compressor surge.. if you loosen the bov a little, that will probably solve your problem. I wouldn't really worry about it, though.. unless the sound just bothers you. Light surge, at partial throttle/light boost situations, won't hurt anything.

I used to get this sound at partial throttle. We always assumed it was the SSQV. To me it sort of sounded like a pigeon being strangled, but to others it sounded like cooing..

Now with the rebuild of my engine and complete overhaul of the TT setup, I have not been having these noises. I guess Frank fixed the problem..?

I called them turbo angry pigeons. I have a GReddy kit, stock without BOV, and I hear them all the time. Sometimes they are nice and some times louder.

Sounds like a small bird has been sucked into the compressor under boost and its complaining.

It looks like you have 9 turns visible. So........I went aout and looked at mine. I only had 6 turns showing. So I loosened it and by the time I back it out 2 more turns, the nut and the allen-head set screw fell off the BOV .

Aparently, you must have a longer set screw than the one on my BOV!

Give Reggie a call at Turbonetics and see if he can send you a new one.

If he's not at as his desk also ask for Steve or Ed when you call in support. Just let them know your BOV is not holding closed properlly and they will send you a new one.

should the BOV be open when idleing? I was looking at it while the car was idling, and the plunger was pulled back (vacuum) allowing air into the intake tract.

Mine does that so I have to assume it will.
