this isn't true because you're still using larger injectors which still flow more fuel.

the reflash is tuned to be safe under boost, it doesn't adjust load maps while not under boost except to compensate for the larger injectors.

I still get decent mileage, but leaning out from the TN kit with a UTEC just for fuel economy is a bad idea if you ask me.

No, not just for fuel economy! I am not that stupid.
I just want more reliability and driveability.
I have been in reflashed cars and tuned cars and it actually
does make a good difference with a good tune.

Im already purchasing the TD kit but wondered what exhaust would best work with the re-flash? im aiming for max HP possible on bolt-on setup. a plenum spacer, CAT maybe?, and Borla exhaust?

The Borla will need to be modified to work with the Turbonetics kit. I like my Apexi WS2 exhaust personally. It has worked well for me for the last 50k + miles.

Im thinking of the Borla because of its quiet sound. I live in Dubai and police are not very leaniant with loud cars. would a CAT make a difference to performance? and pulleys?

Of course a cat would rob some power. A Borla is already quiet as hell with any turbo its library quiet...and pulleys are worth a few horses but nothing big.

Given that the TN reflash dumps in major amounts of fuel in the upper rpms, what about building the bottom end and leaning out the upper rpm range a bit?

Leaning the fuel mixture a tad from super rich up top, will produce a bit more power and the built bottom end will provide extra reliability(given a correct build).

This may not be the most cost effective way, but it should meet your power and reliability goals.

Built motor = stage 2
why waste cash, run the reflash get a spacer a good exhaust and go.
This is what im doing in the spring, ive already got the spacer and stillen exhaust to modify.......wait......................... im waiting to see what stage 1.5 looks like...............maybe stage 2..........

just FYI, if your Z is JDM spec turbonetics wont be able to reflash your ECU. you'll need to get an engine management of your choice! thats why I got the TN tuner kit.

What you're doing will acheive his power goals but what about his reliability goal? There is a point where the reflash will not compensate for other mods. The reflash is actually designed for a bone stock car, as I'm sure you already know. Given you're adding breathing mods, you risk leaning your A/F out or maybe even overboosting. You could get away with the exhaust and spacer with the reflash, A/F on the dyno will tell.

I know a lot of cars are running ~400whp on the stock block and have not blown yet. But on the other hand, there are examples of engines blowing on stock boost and their owners "did everything right."

I just hate seeing the blown motor threads and I don't want this guy to start another one.

If building isn't an option, the most I'd risk is spacer and exhaust. Dyno it. Use good oil and check it frequently. Personally I'd only use TS-1 on a T'netics kit. That's all I ran when I had mine. MIA runs it too and his car is still going strong.

^good point, noticed a few guys are upgrading to 1.5 or 2 when it comes out.......i hope they factor in beefing up the internals as well....i purchased a used stage 1 and it's tempting to upgrade......however, my goal was not to build high hp car and 360-380rwhp on stock block is fine for me as a d/driver....i'll be adding a water/meth kit for added safey as well.

+1
The TN reflash and injectors should be just fine for your goals and current mods.

If the goal is to push the envelope and get more power out of the kit, then I'd say wait for the stage 1.5/2, build the block, buy an F-Con (or AEM if it's out by then), and put the CJ return fuel sys into the mix with larger injectors (550+). Poof: an easy 500+ (maybe 600+) build.
