try a th200r4 same one used in the buick gnx
http://www.artcarr.com/storm.cfm?fun...ProductID=6930
Artcarr builds some of the best transmissions. 700r4 was junk when it first came out untill people learned how to build them.

BTW --the 400 was a good tranny as was the comproble Ford C-6

Thank you, my point exactly. Unless you absolutely MUST built a fast Z, the only cost-effective GM part swap is swapping the whole car, like yours truly over here.

damn... how did i miss this.
ok i have a turbo 400 sitting in my back room, i have the adapter plate and flex plate sitting right next to it.
here is the bottom line, a clutch for our cars that will work for moderately high horsepower is minimum 2500 dollars. then you have to deal with stock tranny issues. no telling how much that is going to cost you. GTMs gear set will be around 4000??? way way too much in my book to still be shifting gears if you want a drag car
on the other hand, i got a fully built (good to 1300 ft lbs of tq) turbo 400 manual reverse pattern valve body tranny for 1700 with three year warranty. i got a 3800 stall and transbrake with all of that. the flex plate cost me 350 and adapter plate cost me 200.
only other thing i need is a shifter (200-400) and my drive shaft (150 steel and 700 CF) depending on what route i want to go.
my last night on the stock tranny is tonight, i am yanking the motor tomorrow and will have the car back running by next week.
i will keep it updated for sure, there are maybe 2 or 3 guys running a GM tranny right now in the US, one is a street car who knocked off a second only by bolting that tranny up.

NEVER, Id rather change my tranny 1X a year and be working on my car all the time than be a homo, pull up to the line, powerbrake and call myself a good driver..

well, that "homo" will be yanking the fronts off the ground, running way over a second faster than you ever will and be at the top of the list instead of battling for second place all the time there Burger King....

Jeremy's "driving" FTMFL
Believe me if anybody now understands your position its me, I completely agree with the expensive carbon clutch + stock tranny = weaksauce mentality now. I am looking into some good options to get down the 1/4 "reliably" and still row my own gear, I simply enjoy grabbing gears to much to ever put an auto in my car. You sure will run faster, and I hope you do yank the fronts but at the end of the day you drive a glorified auto
Different strokes for different folks....

Well, me being a homo and all it's hard to understand all this manly talk about trannies. Wait, nevermind, i completely understand trannies, being a homo and all. LOL. I just prefer to evolve into modern technology instead of clutching on to the past. ![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Will a 400 make a vehicle faster because of gearing or shift time? Or is this just to handle power only? I've read people having trouble at WOT with power and autos.

well, it is a three speed and shifts way way faster than anyone can shift using a clutch, its instant.
the main reason is that you can sit and build boost very easily off the line. my friend here with a 2JZ in his 72 Z can build 15 psi just sitting there. he pulls high 1.3s with hit setup on his street car. plus the stock trannys are breaking when you hit high 500s
i plan on going way way past 500 so i just want something that will work, i love shifting just as much as alberto and all you guys. believe me, i used to make fun of auto sports cars.... BUT there is a point where the autos take back over and help you to run faster.
if they made a tranny that was bulletproof and still a 6 speed that didnt cost a million dollars, i would gladly do that, but my options are limited here..

here is what you should do alberto, get someone to make you a Z32 adapter plate for their 5 speed. that thing is good to hold a lot of power. i thought about it but i already had my TH400...
it really wouldnt cost you much at all to do. i would say, find someone to make the adapter, cant cost too much, someone might already have one, hell, it might even mount right up. then get a Z32 tranny for next to nothing....

Alberto, why don't you consider somebody custom making an adapter plate and all the fabrication for a Supra Getrag gearbox onto the Z?
If you want to stay manual and drag race with big power, that's the only RWD gearbox i would definately choose over anything. My Z tranny already went to **** and i'm still NA(Already been replaced)
