I've torn gears apart in transmissions in other cars with much less power and abuse than my Z's trans is given. I think the Z's trans is great compared to what I'm used to. I and the VAST MAJORITY of other boosted parties out there have had zero transmission issues with this car, and therefore I find it rediculous to call the trans "junk".

Well I guess everyone has their own opinion. One seach of "tranny" tells me otherwise. Like this ONE of MANY threads.

Are we talking about BLOWN UP transmissions (transmission failure) or some grinding into gears on earlier release transmissions? My original trans for my 03 was replaced under warranty due to a third gear grind with 5000 miles on the car, but my 008 trans has been fanstatic since then for nearly 50,000 miles (13,000 boosted).
If you keep having the same grinding issue over and over with new transmissions replaced under warranty from Nissan/Infiniti then I'd say yes, there's a problem. But if you've had success since warranty replacement, I can't really see a reason to be a stick in the mud about it and badmouth the part.

The 350z/G35 transmission, regardless of version, is crap when it comes to tons of HP and drag racing. I rather be called a sissy and run a T400 and actually run every race this season, than replacing a 6mt and running 1-1.5 seconds slower and constantly being broken..Thats just me.

I agree with BriGuy. The earlier versions of the 350Z transmission were terrible...very prone to grinding and lock-out. The newest version I am running now shifts like butter (version 9)...even under heavy power and abuse. I am still reluctant to totally mash it on the track, but it's holding up pretty darn well at 650whp+. And on the street, it shifts very smoothly. I just cant see myself ever swapping to an auto.

i have a 009 in mine as well, maybe thats why no issues yet.
its for sale right now!!!
just havent posted it up, you guys have to understand, just bolting on that tranny will knock close to a second off your quarter mile times. the people that would ever bolt it on are SERIOUS drag racers. there is no need to do it otherwise.
i hate to put it on cause i love shifting, but i love going faster even more...

why don't you come fix it for me b!tch

Sounds like fun though, I have a Chevy Tranny in the garage, maybe put it in my G and make a Drag Car?

I only got the 5th gear grind after the motor was pulled and built. Now, I have to allow the tranny to completly warm up before attempting fast shifts into 5th. Prior to the rebuild, i had 33k happy miles stock and with the ATI SC. The tranny shifted like a champ.
My friend bought a brand new 06 350Z and had the lock out/grind problems in a couple of his gears.
The problems with the 6MT seem to be all over the place. No one can pin point the issue(s). Since Nissan is on its 9th version of the tranny out, its fair to say they dont really know either.
