Getting a clean dyno graph from an automatic car is almost impossible with most transmissions. You have to deal with a graph of just the higher RPM. The same reasons can make it really hard to tune the low rpm and midrange also, but since Sharif tuned it im sure he had very good base maps he has made to start from that were right on anyway - and of course the FCON has closed loop self learning.

No love for the fuel system? Whats are you running?
LOL...the fuel system was an AAM, but we had to replace a few fittings that basically fell apart in my hands as we tightened them back up.

Yeah Charles, tuning the auto trans is a little tricky. Keep in mind, I got planning of steady state and sweep passes in for the tuning, so thats all good. But getting a 2500-6500rpm run for a pretty dyno chart just wasnt going to happen....LOL.

Here is the best looking one I was able to generate. The dip in the power is a result of the trq converter issue we were having. The RPM's would actually fall backwards slightly....then continue on their upward path.

ACG - How ya doing, my friend? I haven't spoken with ya since our "Jeremy Operana" nightmare! Anyway, I just got my A/T back from Speed Force Racing & it's been modded to handle 1000rwhp ( according to Tim @ SFR ). They tighten up the clearances & increase the line pressure as well as do a V/B mod & custom stall & beef the T/C to your specs. They're also waiting on Raybestos to develop/release the beefier clutch packs but I think they add some extra OEM packs to do the same job for now. That power rating should be more than enough for most of us - although I had plans to test the limits!!
I kicked around the idea of transplanting a 4L80E from TCI into my G & using a paddle shift kit that John ( my former installer ) found but the costs were gonna be about the same between the two choices & I just wanted to go with a more "plug & play" system so I opted for the SFR work. FYI, it cost $4200.
Wish I could give ya some feedback but it looks like I found someone to take this frustrating project off my hands. Hopefully I can get Mike ( the new owner - I hope!! ) to keep U guys in the loop on how it handles the power & it's everyday drivability. He's gonna switch from the Vortech ( it was never installed anyway - like most things on this piece of s*** project ). & is getting Sharif to hook him up w/a Greddy TT kit w/upgraded turbos. He wants to make close to 700 rwhp & I KNOW I built a motor to handle that kind of power so wish him luck!

Hey Gene, nice to hear from you after all this time. I dropped the idea of going Vortech and pushing the limits and decided to go TT instead. I also tightened up the clearances & increased line pressure and did a V/B upgrade from SFR & custom stall on the T/C but I am still waiting on the new clucthpacks to arrive. I hope to make a nice safe 500rwhp I am waiting on alto for their new clutch packs to arrive, I just had a friend call them yesterday and stop them from putting in a new set of OEM packs and just wait it out.

Congrats Ron! You have a bad azz Z there buddy. I can't wait for the upgraded clutch packs to be available. I am sure you will be one of the first
5AT guys to push the limits when the tranny can handle it.

how do you dyno the 5at? Do you leave it in auto mode or put it in tiptronic and put it in 3rd or something?

Alex - Thanks man......I was hoping to see us both posting up our numbers around the same time although your's would have been truly impressive and I hope that may still be the case. Good luck!

Mean Gene - Thanks for the info. Like acg I'm gonna try to wait out the new clutch packs since Alto indicated they will be available in early 07 and hopefully Raybestos gets motivated.

Sixto - Thanks bro....looking forward to seeing your transformation as well.

Jorge - Thanks man, I appreciate it. I definitely plan on testing the limits of this thing.

Willie - Not sure as I was not present for the dyno run but my guess is in manumatic mode.

Usually dyno is done in manumatic as the car shifts to early in Auto mod to get a good tune on the car.

Thanks! I thought about that also but it gets pretty costly and on a par with a rebuilt 5AT.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. It's been a long project with 4 major stages along the way and this was the last major one. The car is running well. I've also confirmed that it is the torque converter locking up that is causing the issues at 4500 rpms and the power drop. Time for a rebuilt TC....just hoping clutch packs will be available soon as told to me by Alto.
