We have always dynoed my AT5 in 3rd . We found that we always got that dip when trying to do it in 4rth . On the dyno , I shift manually till I get to third . Then I have to give it gas fast but not to fast as to make it down shift into 2nd

you mean, even in manual mode it'll still downshift? that kinda sucks

I had an auto Z for 4 months and I don't remember it doing that, but my memory is fuzzy

We tried 3rd and 4th, and encountered the same issue....always in manual mode. In auto mode on the road, we still encountered the issue.

^ I spoke with Andre @ Edge Racing Converters and he def believes the issue described to be TC and did not feel it was the clutch packs.

I would agree 100% with that. At some higher power point, the clutches will be an issue...but we arent there yet. Clutch slip is something very easy to detect on the dyno, and we didnt see anything like that.

Even though a big dip in power isnt seen on my dyno's . If I remember right , I do see a slight hesitation in rpm ramp up at or around 4000rpm

On the dyno, we can plot RPM vs. speed, and if they arent perfectly linear, we can determine if tire spin or clutch slip is present. It's pretty neat.

Booger, how do you like the Edge TC? Was anything else done to the trans?

If I had it to do over ..I dont think I would of had him change the stall at all . The TC was the first thing I did back when I had the stock blower on . I added SGP's valve body this last year . Now thats a night and day difference from a stock one . Love it

What stall did you go with and why not change?

Just bringing this back from the dead a little, the reason why is that I had my car at the dyno yesterday because I started to see a little smoke at 4500rpm.

Well we put the car on the dyno and it went well until we hit 4400-4500rpm and the TC locked up for a second, when this happened the boost pressure got so high that we would get a small puff of smoke and as soon as it went past this hesistantion it went back to normal with no smoke. It looks like I am getting some blow by due to the TC locking up for that short time....is this normal.

When we did the acceleration at a slower pace and let the TC not lock up so bad we noticed almost no smoke from the exhaust at all.

I am upgrading the tranny in a few weeks and I am hoping that this will eliminate this issue altogether..we shall see.

On a side note which is probably more of a concern to me is that my car with the built motor and APS TT came out to only 340rwhp so the owner stated and he said that this was at 16psi something does not seem right here, I got more than that with my Vortech at 9psi. Should I get a second opinion.

^ I would think that with a built motor and APS TT @ 16psi you should be seeing much higher than 340whp. I put down 459whp @ 12.5psi on Sharif's "heartbreaker" DD dyno.

Good luck with your tranny upgrade; I'm throwing in the towel on the 5AT and will be doing a 6MT swap.

I wish I knew, I mean if there was then they would have said something there and then but all he said was "your car drives really smooth for an AT" did not help the situation one bit.

I would love to have a breakdown on the parts I need for a swap.....if someone is willing to share, I have a few days before I dump the money into the tranny upgrade.

I also noticed that as soon as the TC locks up it takes a dip in power and seems to recover slowly which may be why my numbers were a little low but hell not that low.

Take a look at my dyno chart earlier in the thread and you'll see the area where the lock up occurs and then the drop off in power. However, you should definitely be seeing higher #s if boost is 16psi.

Here's a partial list of the major stuff for a swap. It's not cheap but neither is upgrading the 5AT to hold 500whp.

Engine harness
ECU
MT
Drive shaft
Diff
Interior parts
ATS Carbon Clutch

Yep I saw the dyno and it looks very similar to what I saw but with less power same dip at around the same time. I am going to call the shop on Monday and see what he has to say about the power I am putting out, I am not sure I understand what is going on here, I mean the car feels a lot faster than my Vortech did..lol

Thanks Brent. I certainly hope so but you'll have to take it easy on me with what you're planning to run.

Engine harness

add to the list
pedal assembly with 6 spd shifter
drive shaft are the same.(if im not mistaken)
and ur rear pumpkin will be fine. longer gears(keep ur 3.3)

talk to Gurgen he converted to 6spd from an auto. he said it wasnt a cheap conversion. he could give u a ball park figure
