Default Turbo or Super Charged? Pros and Cons of both

Just curious about the pros and cons of both and what one has to offer over the other.

I tried doing a search but I found nothing useful. If you all chose to discuss this matter, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll also take a link to a useful thread.

thanks

Super charger IMO is a waste on a Z, I am a believer of super charging american muscle cars and Big Turbos on imports, But i am no pro at motors and the technical stuff, so i say do what you want and what you feel is best for your application.

Cheers

No offence, but you need to search. I just read a thread you started asking the difference between a long/short block. Stop posting and start searching!!

You say you searched, but how could you have not come up with ANYTHING?? This topic is huge. Don't make me or one of the other regulars spend 2 minutes and throw 10 search links at you and make you feel dumb, lol.

that's just what typically has been done because MOST japanese engines are pretty damn small - 2 liters, 2.5 liters, 3 liters, 3.2 liters. Engines that small need ALL the help they can get.

The 350Z is one of japan's biggest engines in a sports car. You can stroke it to 4.24 Liters, which is almost as much liters as a V8 mustang GT only it's drastically more efficient when you consider even the base Z engine puts out as much peak hp as the mustang (less tq of course), but has more aggressive gearing and can rev quite a bit higher to pretty much compensate

There's lots of really fast cars with superchargers. Even a porsche GT3 has a 3.6 liter engine with a centrifugal SC and it's pretty fast. IMO what you want to look at is the end result.

S/C=no lag, less power potential, parasitic (uses power to make power), easier to deal with, safer for engine

Turbo=lags, more power potential, uses exhaust gases to make power (non-parasitic), more mantainence needed, **** blows up when not done right

FYI, I found all this on one search. It took less than 5 minutes.

actually turbos do use some parasitic power to make their power, about 1/4 as much as a supercharger though. The turbine fan being in the way of the exhaust takes some power away

typically turbos have a little higher adiabatic efficiency than centrifugal SC's, and a lot higher than roots/twin screw SC's

Turbo has a lag depends on the size, supercharge don't. Turbo can make more hp than supercharge if both were same psi. Turbo would be the best choice for street car, supercharge is better in the track, but that doesn't mean its not a good choice for street. Do your search and you will be fine.
