Stock Vortech Blow Stock Motor?
Hey, just wondering because everyone says that the vortech is one of the safest forms of f.i. has anyone even heard of anyone ever blowing the stock motor with only the 3.33 pulley and a tune? (aka the stock vortech kit wit a proper tune)
ya, i mean snapping rods. if i had the stock vortech kit and had it tuned and made 330whp to 350whp i would be more than happy but i don't want to snap any rods so i'm wondering if anyone else has snap or bent a rod with 350whp or under with the 3.33 pulley.
I'd actually really like to know about anyone who actually has broken rods and blew up the block because I'm honestly not able to think of anyone who that's happened to, but wouldn't doubt at all that it's happened to at least a couple people
From everyone I've read about and also talked with who hurt their engine with a vortech has almost never been a catastrophic failure. A lot of the people who hurt the engine knew they were running lean on their A/F gauge, or thought they heard some detonation, but continued to push the car anyway - so there were some warning signs.
they've usually chipped a piston ringland which is bad, but not a catastrophic failure. It usually means they lose some power, engine might make some new rattling sounds, might burn more oil since more oil might be able to slip past the piston, might have some smoke come out the exhaust, etc. Kinda depends just how bad it is. The inside of the cylinder chamber can get all scratched up, a valve might get slighly bent from the debris hitting it. The engine will still operate with those issues though.
Most people that have hurt their engine ended up building up the engine anyway because it's no fun driving around making less power or lots of black smoke coming out the exhaust, but they at least are able to drive it around until they get the money together for an engine build
330-350whp is very unlikely to damage the engine - assuming you have a decent tune of course. I don't think 330-350whp on a vortech setup is very dangerous at all since it only stresses the engine in the higher rpms when you go WOT and those are fairly conservative peak numbers for any sort of FI setup anyway

I broke a ringland at the track running about 350whp . Not enough timing being pulled . There were no signs of knock or detonation at all . I really dont think you can hear it happening with out some type of ad while on the dyno .
The piece broke off and got lodged in a valve a bent it

lets just say it isnt going to be blowing ringlands or motors . Its normally a very rich A/F and plenty of timing being pulled to be safe . It just wouldnt be a very good tune
well after searching even more and finding there to be deffetive ss boxs i'm really up in the air now. is there signs of the box being bad and time to get it fixed befor the big boom or no sign? it sounded to me from kzanard's experince that he had a lot of signs but just took to long to figure out that it was the ss box. but if it was fixed before so much time and miles went by it should have been fine correct?
