Well an hour has passed and no response. I did a search before and found that it is possible with the APS kits and the TN, but found nothing on the PE kit. Would like to know so I can change them out myself. It would seem possible just take of the actuators change out the springs and install back on the turbo. Has anyone done this?

Hi priscilla ls1

Yes it is possible to change the springs on the Power Enterprise Actuators without removing the engine. in fact it is fairly easy job to do if you can lift the car. you will need to be a bit careful not to damage the diaphragm during the reassembly. as for the springs, Power Enterprise have an upgraded stiffer springs that you can order it from them or from MVP Motorsports. what i did on one is i gutted a standard GTR turbos actuators and i took the springs out of it and installed it on the Power turbos. it worked out fine for me but, in order for me determine the base boost level and to make sure that the actuators are opening at the same boost level i had to pressurized them to 11 psi and play with the adjustment to make sure they are set to open at the same boost level and to be honest with you i think this is the only tricky part on the whole task. you can always count the threads on the adjustment shaft to make sure they are equal.

I hope it helps and good luck.

Husam,

MC-Performance.

WOW thanks just what I wanted to here. I have the #5 upgraded springs and was told I had to take the engine out to change them. I will get started on this maybe this weekend. What did you use to test the pressure on the actuator itself?

there is a vacuum pressure tester that you can buy at Peb Boys. i have fabricated my one with the use of boost gauge and a manual boost controller.

Hey cheston do you remember how long it took them to change out the springs? I have a shop that wants to do it for me but they have never done one before. How long did it take your shop to do it?

I am just going to try and do this myself I will take pics and notes for anyone in the future that is willing to try this.

Ok I have already started taking off the actuator on the drivers side I took off the metal shaft using a rench.

These are the hard bits to get to they are the ones that hold the actuator to the turbo they are 2 star bits I am touching one of them with my middle finger in this pic.

This is the tool you are going to be needing to get to them. EDIT !! FLEX TOOL DID NOT HELP WITH JACK NICE CONCEPT BUT NOT STRONG ENOUGHT TO BRAKE THE HOLD.

More to come soon.. wish me luck.

What?

OK here is some more pics of the actuator spring swap out.

car on jack stands I had to take off the bumper the actuators are impossible to get to.

I put in 6 hours and only got the driver side actuator out. I had to take off some of my turbo piping and intake to get to it. This has been a real pain to do but I am going to finish it out.

One down one to go!

Here is where I am stuck, how do I get the spring out?

Well today I put in about 3 hours I had to take off the alternator and some more turbo piping, The passanger side seems to be the hardest to get to.

Here is a pic of the shaft on this side took like 20 min to unhook it very crampt, I could only get one hand in there and used my fingers to turn the rench a 1/4 every time it sucked and I have cramps in my palm, I felt the burn. Now I feel it would have been easier to just take the engine out.

Also does anyone know how to remove the spring from the actuator?

To the OP- good luck man, you have ***** for attempting this. I know from installing my own TT kit with the motor in-car how tight the space is around the turbos.

I probably would have just pulled the motor to do this, honestly.

**UPDATE**

Hey everyone I am still in the middle of this I am just waiting for my springs to come in from PE. Anyways the passanger side actuator was not coming off it is just not possible to take it off the turbo so I opened the housing and used a dremel to cut the spring out. I know this is a getto way of doing it but it worked and I am going to bend the spring into the actuator on the passanger side to get it in. Monday I will be installing a inovate widband. Does anyong know how to get wires throught the firewall to the back of the dashboard. A pic would help, Thanks and I will keep you all update on what I plan to do next. Later.
