My BOV squeals every time I start off slowly in 1st gear. And sometimes when I start off from a rolling stop in 2nd gear. In order to fix this, how should I adjust the nut (show more threads than current or less)? When you guys say to adjust to nut on top to show 6-7 threads, are you talking about the 1st bolt from the left in the picture (where the vacuum line attaches)?

The one on the left side is for the vacuum line . The bolt in the middle , it should have 7 or more threads showing above the lock down nut . A BOV isnt going to squeel...whistle yes....squeel NO ! Are you sure it isnt your serp belt thats squeeling ?

Sorry, I meant whistle. I tried tightening the bolt in the middle and currently it shows almost 6 threads, but I couldn't tighten it anymore. I feel like if I forced it, the hat would crack. Is it suppose to be hard to get more threads? I read somewhere that some people have 9 threads showing.

Your BOV SHOULD WHISTLE when its open. If you forced the bolt down . Back it out a turn or two or it will close to soon . It comes from Vortech with about 9 threads showing . When you tighten it down some , it will get it to close sooner . Going to far is bad and will cause compressor surge .

It whistles every time I take off from a stop for about a second, or every time I do a rolling start from a low rpm...doesn't matter what gear. Is this normal? How many threads does your's show?

Mine shows about 5-6 threads right now, so is that bad? How should I adjust it?

Thanks booger.

Did I not just explain it ? Back out that bolt till it has 7 threads showing above the lock down nut , when the lock down nut is tight .

Well, the thing with mine is, I can't tighten it past 6 threads without excessive force...might be an issue with my bov. Is there anything wrong with 6 threads showing (from your explanation, it will close later with more vacuum as opposed to 7+ threads)? Also, does your bov whistle as you take off?

Im not trying to sound like a ***** , but havent I explained it several times ?

1-You have it to tight
2- back it out [ loosen it ] till you have 7 threads showing
3- having it to tight will cause compressor surge and that is BAD !
4- Having that bolt tighter.....closes the BOV sooner . To soon is bad !

I think I know what the problem is. The bolt with the threads has an allen head on the top to adjust it. What Booger is saying is loosen the nut (the nut is only there to hold the bolt at a set adjustment), then take an allen wrench and back the bolt out. Then position to nut until 7 threads are showing above it. Then with the allen wrench, screw the bolt down until the nut hits the bell. Then just tighten up the nut on the bell housing and it should stay that way. If you need to adjust it later, always loosen the nut then adjust the bolt.

Remember, the nut doesnt adjust anything, it holds the bolt in place.

^ahhh...Ok I was being dumb. I thought he wanted me to screw the nut tighter, but got confused when he said "back out". Thanks for the help Sisith and Booger.

Sorry I didn't know how to adjust it, my installer adjusted it for me.

I need to check my screw, but most likely the shop that installed it did not adjust the screw. So turning it down to 7 threads should close the BOV a fraction quicker. Will I be able to tell the difference from feel or is it something that you almost need to measure on a load based dyno and compare the graphs - expecting the turned down graph to be shifted slightly to the left?

Did anything I just say make any sense?

One time one of my vacuum hoses came unloose from my plenum. It sounded like the fluttering he had in his vid clip

Thanks for that man. When I was making those vids I was expecting more responses from them. Its so much fun. Glad we are on the BOV topic. Decided to look at mine and noticed a rubber gasket inside was dangling. Went over to Rons house (SungNamZ) because I knew he had an extra one and put it on. Will send mine back to Vortech to get it rebuilt.
