In the end it depends on your budget. Of course any stand alone is going to be better then a piggyback. Personally an HKS Fcon V Pro or Haltech would be the best all around.. but a UTEC will do.

Technically a UTEC is not a piggyback ECU. It's a parallel ECU. Greddy E-Manage Blue and Ultimate are piggyback ECU's.

I never said it was a piggyback. I said stand alones are better then piggybacks. Then I listed the top 3 stand alone units including the UTEC..

Labor is $290 for a basic overhaul/rebuild. Add to that the parts cost of $150-250 for seals, bearings if needed, other bad parts. Typically $400-500 based on something being broken aside from the seals... Thats the info I got from Turbonetics. This is for the ceramic ball bearing unit of course...

Yeah... and like I said previously. The UTEC is not a standalone unit and it's not a piggyback. It's a parallel ECU.

I am one of the best and worst examples of a TN set-up on a stock motor. TN kit, UTEC, AAM Stage1 fuel system, good tune, HKS DLI ignition, it lasted 3000 miles before it sent 2 rods through the block. Hard to say for sure, but from talking to knowledgable people/shop owners and seeing how many motors are staying alive now-a-days as compared to only 1 year ago it was likely my raised limiter and my abusive racing habits (up to 7100rpms from6600). Good luck with it, the kit on a stock motor is great

If I was going to describe the operation of the UTEC and put it in one of the two categories I would say stand alone is it actually initiates timing and fuel adjustments rather then just modifying the stock output signal. That being said I put it in the standalone category when I talk about it. But tomato, tamato..

these poll results are BS.....

most people have the TN kit on a stock block. The poll is showing 36 people with this kit on a built motor......I can only think of 3 or 4 people using this kit on a built motor
