Default Vortech 3.12 pully whistling loud

Anybody else have this problem? Its very loud high pitched whistle. I've sprayed silicone spray on it but it didn't help.

Pulleys don't usually whistle. If bearings are bad the sound is a grinding noise... Do you mean the belt slippage... To hear if it's a bad bearing put a thin metal rod on it and put the other end to your ear and you will definately determine if it's a bad bearing(s)..

The BOV whistles . Stick a yard stick or something down in front of it and see if it goes away . WIth the 3.12 your pushing a little more air thru the BOV so the whistle will be louder

And if it is the BOV, you can get the BOV filter from Vortech and it will significantly reduce the noise. Mine whistled a lot with the 3.33 pulley and the filter eliminated it, even with the 3.12 pulley that is on there now.

I just got my 3.12 pulley installed on my car. And don't have that whistle sound you are talking about. The whine of the SC is more louder though. But, the power gain with this pulley is great.

Its not the BOV and its not the whine from the blower. Its a very loud high pitched whirring sound and I thought it was coming from the 3.12 pulley because as I was doing trial and error I sprayed wd40 and got it to go away for a while but then it came back.

Maybe if you can get a video of the sound and post it up. Someone might be able to pin-point the problem area out. Just a suggestion and hope you find out what it is or what is causing it.

If you sprayed the belt to pulley interface you have a belt slipping problem. If you sprayed the bearings you have a bad pulley..The spray adds some friction (less slippage and squealing) to the belt interface but the friction goes away when the wd-40 goes away...

With mine, the blower itself whistles/whines quit loud at startup and gradually lessens as the oil warms. Whistle is louder & longer when cold. It has been that way since installed and normal.

Mines sounds normal when it is cold and doesn't make that sound till after I drive it for a little while. When you shut off the car the sound tapers off and when you rev it, it sounds like it goes away. Tried to take the 3.12 pulley off but it seems like some type of adhesive was used to secure it. I felt like I was going to break the bolt if I tried any harder. Going to take it to the installer on sunday to see if we can take it off.

Probably used lock-tite on it . You can try to use section of heater hose and put it up to your ear and the other end to diff. parts on the SC kit to pin point where its coming from .

So I go to visit my buddy SungNamz at his house and he's building a motor with his kids for his sons STI. He looks at it for 5 minutes and says"your plenums leaking". 3 nuts tightened later and it goes away instantly.

My blower whines loud also, i believe it is normal. I would'nt spray the pulley or belt if i were you, it will just slip now. Pull the belt, clean every thing off re-install and try agian.

Glad you got it figured out (and it was a cheap/easy fix)

You should b seeing 9psi out of a 3.12 but Im not either and I think the elevation I'm at plays a factor which is 5kft

yeah elevation really plays a factor on a SC because the SC only blows a finite amount of air.

Something like a turbo would just waste less air out the wastegate and put it in the engine until it reached the ceiling of the wastegate to vent off the excess
