Default HKS Twin-Power Ignition + TT's?

I was always told by people who have this mod that they have felt gains, but I've never seen any dyno charts of baselines and after HKS Twin-Ignition mod.

I currently have the APS TT on Unichip. Should I expect anything? I was going to cam the car soon as well. Would I need a new tune?

Thanks!

I first installed this with a TN kit-my car ran smoother up top, and I trapped 2mph higher in 95 degree heat than in 45 degree weather with no real changes in the tune. Will everybody see results like this? Doubt it, but Id spend the $$$ on it again.

I'm not knocking alberto's opinion, and he knows I respect it, but I will state my own:

It's an overpriced gadget that tries to fix what isn't broken, and you should spend your money elsewhere.

As far as I know, no one has ever done a before/after dyno test, as simple as this would be to do.

i think it's more important if you're running a lot of boost and/or running water injection

Wired-no problem I respect your opinions.

I know the Supra community loves these things, and they know a little something about making power, but in reality nobody can be sure because we have no dyno's proving anything. I trust HKS's experience/products enough to justify the $400.

The Sun version is not the same thing, in fact it couldnt be more different!
The Sun "thing" is a passive box that absorbs backlash, whatever that is.
The HKS box is an ignition amplifier, God I hate misinformation!

lol those are very different products

one is the uber grounding kit, the other actually gives you more spark, which is nice if you add a lot more air and fuel. Spark is the only other thing to the equation for making power, igniting race gas easier, working better under water injection conditions, and less chance unburnt fuel will ruin your cats if you have them

Thank you! I hate when people say that...

Carv2's 350z is making over 600whp without one. i asked them if i needed one they said no. if i had the money to spare after getting tt's and a built motor, i would probably get one though.

No dyno to prove it but I think it was worth every penny to smooth the engine or for little xtra power at the bottom. No, it is not needed to make the power but it sure helps.

IIRC, the HKS DLI II eliminates the need to gap your spark plugs. Correct???

We havent done any before and after testing, becuase trying to discern a 3-4whp gain is just not feasible. If you make 3 dyno pulls, all the numbers will vary by a few WHP.

That said, the DLI certainly makes more of a difference on higher boost cars, as you start approaching the limits of the factory ignition system. I have seen 20whp gains just from changing out worn spark plugs, so it woudnt suprise me to see some modest gains with the DLI.

You still need to correctly gap your plugs, but it allows you to run a wider gap, closer to what the stock NA gap is on a FI system because of the stronger spark.

I can't tell you if I felt a change on my mostly NA setup right now because I had an ECU reflash and swapped my FD at the same time, but I would consider this mod to increase reliability more than being a power adder.
