Question To Turbo, or Not To Turbo?

Well, I've been considering investing in a turbo for some time now. Part of me says buy it! But the reasoning side of me says maybe not.... So I'm turn as to what to do... What do you all think? Mind you this is my daily driven Z that I use for work driving around all over the place doing computer service. I can't take too much of a hit on reliability or average mpg here. But I so want the power. My last ride was a '73 Plymouth with a 408" stroked small block, kinda miss the *****-out power.

Turbo that biotch!! Make sure you have a back up car though cause you can assume its going to be in the shop a while. If you go turbo, go with a built block too and do it all at once. You can put turbos on and run low boost then put in a built engine but thats alot of time in the shop and not to mention more work. I say save your money till you can get a built engine and turbos at the same time and have a reliable car to drive around a month or 2 just in case your Z takes longer to install the engine and turbo than expected.

As far as MPG and such, i dont know much about that but i assume you could turn down the boost and get alot better gas mileage but then crank it up when you wanna go ballz to the wall.

Do you have the funds to fix it if it blows? Do you have another car that you can drive when small issues arise on the Z? (issues WILL pop up!!)

If the answer to those questions is no, then don't do it. I'd suggest to just get something faster if you can afford it, or save the money and get something faster or another car that you can drive.

C'mon for every guy that has 30K+ miles on his stock block daily you have guys like me who only got 3000 miles out of his set-up.

OP-reliabilty and stock block cant go in the same sentence. Those who say they do or can are lying to themselves. If you want to take the chance and have at least $10K to get the car fixed IF/WHEN it breaks then do it. But you already answered that.

That's true but while I agree this motor is volatile under boost I wouldn't say its unreliable under boost. Lets face it, not everyone drives their car like you and I. If someone performs the proper maintenance and drives with some self control (its ok I don't have any either) they should be fine for quite some time.

You drive your car hard, I drive my car hard, mine lasted 3000 miles, yours is still running at 60K+ miles. Thats enough reason (50/50) to not do it if its his DD.
