If I have a shop install it and something goes wrong I can blame the shop and they have to fix it. If I do it myself (and I dont think I have the skillz, not really great on car stuff) if something goes wrong its my fault and then Im screwed

spacer/mrev, lightweight (stock sized pulley), headers/hfc/exhaust, jwt flywheel/clutch, koyo rad.

Hoping for some fun times, but the question is, how long does the fun last ????
you dont need 750 injectors for that set up 440's would be fine . and typical labor charge to install is about 750 and up . honestly i would install it myself if i were you its very simple to do .

fair enough, assuming the shop owns up to it (and you know enough about the install to catch them). the install really isn't that hard though...that's part of the appeal of the vortech - its a very straightforward system.

Default fmu woes?

Just installed a full vortech kit on my 2004 de, and took a trip to the dyno to see if everything was running correctly a/f wise. As it turns out my car leans out at 5500 and the shop suspects a fuel issue. If the aux fuel pump only comes on when the ss box tells it to, how can I trouble shoot the aux pump to make sure its coming on? Is there a way to trick the car into turning it on so I can verify that it is working without damaging the pump? Also, could a faulty fmu be related to this issue? Wiring wise, everything else is correct. I did search and found mixed opinions.
Aside from this issue everything else on the car runs like stock, it starts right up and cruising around its just like it was before the vortech install. The only engine mods I have is an exhaust and 5/16th plenum spacer. I live in CA and the smog text/inspection is a real problem that is why I went with the full kit instead of a tuner kit with a tune and injectors etc...your thoughts and opinions are appreciated. thanks

Stock INJECTORS are Fine with the Stock Vortech Kit and 3.33 Pulley, But if you upgrade to the 3.12 or 2.87 you will need at least 440cc and recalibrate the FMU to 6/1. The FMU is not the problem as long as you installed it correct.

It could be the Settings in the SS Box, I'd check this first. Should be set to come on about 1 PSI and about 1200 Rpm
It could be a Wiring problem
It could be a Bad SS Box
It could Be a Bad Fuel Pump, test with 12V from battery.
Installing a Walbro Pump is a good Idea. Under $100

DO YOU HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR SS BOX FILE?

I finally got my winter vortech build all done and running.
This thread helped out ALOT! Thanks everyone for all the useful information in here.

I'm not fully tuned yet, just running a conservative basemap on it right now and it's already smoking my 305's above 3 grand in 2nd.

110000 miles on my car. 100k with a Vortech (installed 2004) with 2.87 pulley at 11.5 lbs of boost. Still on stock internals, stock clutch, stock flywheel. Needless to say it isn't a 600 HP monster, but it has 100k miles on an FI daily driver putting down 420+HP on a new motor to the Z world at the time. I couldn't be happier with the results.

The biggest issue I have had with the SC was a rebuild of the blow off valve. Biggest issue with the car - TIRES, lol.

I like hearing stories like that!

Are you using the full kit or tuner with injectors and EMS etc ?

whats up guys, Im ordering a vortech kit with the v3 blower as soon as I get a couple questions figured out. I have and 06' rev up and would like to get the cog pulley that makes more boost. For a revup do you still get the 2.87 cog or is the pulley different that the non revup. Also does the different size pulley require a different size belt than the one that comes with the revup kit or do you just use tensioner. sorry if the my question had already been answered a lot of the information I have read has been for the non-revup.

smaller pulley = smaller belt
