There's a couple Hydra Nemesis units doing some nice things in the tC world but that doesn't mean it will be the end all for the Z. The Haltech unit is in the $1700 range complete also and it has already proven it can control cam timing.

It's not out.
Why is everyone is so eager to have control over cam phasing? In most cases it is very difficult to do a better job than the factory ecu. As a matter of fact, I have tuned well over one hunderd Subaru STI's and Evo 9's. In these applications we do have the abilty to modify the cam phasing tables.
Keep in mind, this is very capable software that I work with(for Evo/STi), it has over one hundred ECU tables. You can change and manipulate any thing you want, such as MAF scaling, injector scaling, cam, open/closed loop control, code deletion, etc etc (the software is very mature and has been out for seven years). The adjustment of cams in this case is very consistent and repeatable. Even so, the results were minimal, not even worth the hours upon hours of time required to tune the cams correctly.
Imagine now, you try to do cam adjustments on our VQ from scratch with a blank standalone ECU (like AEM, etc). You don't have the benefit of having the stock Nissan tables (like you did above with Evo/STi's), and the equipment used to tune the cams is nowehere near as mature as the one for Evo/STi. Some people have indeed found this out the hard way (with a VQ and AEM). Knowing this, why would anyone try to mess with the cam phasing is beyond me.
Another thing, cam advance is completely inactive in the high rpm range, and their advance mostly takes place in the low to mid range and, mostly, under medium loads (not WOT high loads). Case in point, on our VQs, the cam advance turns off completely by 4800rpm, and is in single digit degrees through high 3000's and through 4000's. This is why Hydra locks the cam phasing tables for non-tuners/dealers since almost none is capable of such a task.
