Default ventured into the f/i world

well i just got my car back a few days ago from sonics(shop down here in hawaii). i purchased a greddy twin turbo w/fmic, emanage ultimate, and hks ssq. dropped it off. of course being me i have no patients and went to the shop to see what was going on. i saw my car on the racks and looked underneath and small my two beautiful turbos mounted up already. after a week of being in the shop the car was finally done. there were some problems though. i didnt replace the spark plugs yet and the tune that came with the eu SUCKED. the car really choked out at the middle to top end so car will be going back to sonics this week for jwt clutch/flywheel, aem wideband, aem truboost, new plugs, and putting her on the dyno for a new tune. going to be shooting for the 400whp range. wish me luck ;-)

Good luck!

How is the EU compared to UTEC? Just wondering. Someone like Sharif or Sam can probably answer my question . . .

thers actually a few f/i z's out here. i can think of 6 off of the top of my head and im sure theres more out there. and thats only thats on this island. im sure there are many more out there. one of them will hopefully crack the 700whp range . after seeing one of our f/i guys utecs and how it works. i really wanted to get one. i plugged my eu into the laptop once just to get a look at the system and the map that was on the eu. i noticed that it started at 50 went down to 30 and went all the way back up to 99. now im no professional but i gotta say that seems really akward. cuz on 510's 99 is pretty much maxing those injectors out. but next week thatll all be taken care of. gonna take it up to 9psi. hopefully my motor doesnt give

Haven't read all the posts but I am one of those guys that vouches for the Greddy EU.

I have one question: when everything was installed, was there any tuning done to the EU or did the install crew simply installit, wire it to the ECU and left it at that?

If that is the case that tehre was no tuning done, you are running on a base tuning map which is extremely rich which may explain the choking. Make sure you look into that.

Then that explains it, the install crew just wired it in and you are running on a map that is WAY too rich and may even have less timing.

The theory behind this (as i found out when I ventured into FI-dom) is that for safety-sake, a very very conservative tune is first introduced to the car and as subsequent dyno pulls are done, the tuner actually get's more aggressive (per the owners requests if applicable) as the more pulls are made.

Originally, I thought it was the other way 'round so I called my tuner since I was detonating, and asked if he was going to do a proper pull on settings similar to what I wanted. He comforted by saying that he starts off with a very basic tune which the EU comes with and then trims it to add performance.

So yeah, you're running on a tune that would make a nun blush. Get that thing really tuned and watch your numbers and power soar!!!

I think that may be a bit presumptious. One of the key attributes to getting numbers similar to that is a somewhat aggresive tune and a VERY free-flowing exhaust a la 3".

I on the other hand went with a very conservative tune and with an exhaust that wasn't nearly as suitable for FI applications, I got 340 rwhp and 345 torque.

I was fast enough to beat most Vettes and Porsche and claimed 2 CTS-V's as well as a WS6 Firebird and 3 Camaros, 1 SVT Cobra and a new Mustang GT.
