help on aps tt kit with built engine
im gonna drop my car off at the shop for built engine and aps tt kit. i plan on to have about 500 whp/tq at the wheels. i just cant decide on what cluth to go with. the shop sugested exedy twin plated carbon clucth, but at 2,500, i wont go with that (i know i should but that is just too much money for a cluth.)
im thinking about chutchmasters:
http://www.hybridconnection.com/cata...f6c1fd856e5c2f
or
the act combo c/f:
clutch:
http://www.hybridconnection.com/cata...f6c1fd856e5c2f
flywheel(WHICH IS BEST BETWEEN THE 2?)
http://www.hybridconnection.com/cata...f6c1fd856e5c2f
http://www.hybridconnection.com/cata...f6c1fd856e5c2f
how will those 2 brands hold the power? and how streetable are they? im leaning towards the act combo because of price. they also say the the act clucth will hold 662 ft/lbs. what do you guys sugest? also how much extra should a shop charge for a clutch and flywheel install? if they are installing a tt kit, im guessing not that much? thanks in advance....

Hey, I recently posted a thread similar to your's. I'm gonna have a similar setup as you (read my sig). Do a search and read about it. To sum it up, if you skimp out and go with a cheap clutch, you are gonna have to replace it soon or later and you are gonna end up spending the same money as buying more high end clutches like exedy twin carbon or carbonetics/ATS twin carbon.
I'm going with the cabonetics/ATS twin carbon with 1350 pressure plate.

CM doesnt recommend that twin disc, except for pure drag racing applications. They claim it is VERY grabby and not suitable for a street car at all. For 500whp, you have lots of options that are all pretty good. ACT, CM Stage 4, RPS...all very good, and opinions will probably vary, as to what is "better".
A carbon twin will last at least twice as long, and they are very very smooth, so that might be something to consider as well. The Carbonetics twins are about $2000 or so....so that's another option, that might be less than a triple or Exedy twin. Let us know if we can help.

I was hell bent against going with the big buck clutch. After eating up a couple lower priced clutches I saw the light.
2K+ seems like a lot now, but not so much after a couple 600 clutches go bye-bye and you are paying 2-3 install bills on top of buying the 2k+ buck clutch anyways

+1 to ATS. sure it may cost 2 grand for it... but the clutch lasts, is very responsive and most of all near stock modulation and comfort (well... before it extremely heats up).
i've had 3 clutches prior to boost up tuning to 510 rwhp. the car was making 350 rwhp and i killed a JWT combo, RPS combo with JWT flywheel and a twin tilton street AND ceramic rally setups. needless to say, with all that money spent on clutches, i should have done it right the first time... ATS or any other multidisk carbon setup.

i've already put lot of money on the car for now...so im gonna give a cheaper clutch a shoot, till at least next year then i'll problably get a better clutch..i think i'll go with cm stage 4 clutch...what flywheel should i get for this clutch?
I understand where you are coming from with trying to save money but getting a less expensive clutch now, but in reality you will be spending more because once that clutch is burned up you will have to..
1. Pay the labor to R/R the clutch
2. Buy the correct clutch you should have gotten in the first place.
I know it gets very expensive modifying cars and you can spend more than you thought in a blink of an eye, thats just the way this hobby is.
I would hate for you to spend money on a inadeqite clutch then spend more money to get the right clutch down the road.
We have our GTM Spec Twin disk carbon clutches in stock and ready to ship, they are very street able and will hold the power you will be putting out and LAST.
Of course I am biased to this clutch/flywheel combo but everyone who has purchased it as been very satisfied with it
Good luck and let me know if you need anything!

do you guys like run down to your last $1 or something?
if you can't afford the right clutch for the right power.. then don't get a built motor.. run with a stock motor for a little till you can afford the clutch..
