hypotheticaly speaking lets say i had a fully built motor, Greddy or JWT TT putting down 450HP+. i have a 5AT and am looking to go F/I soon and am looking at every option possible. i want it done right the first time so im either going with TN ST on stock block, which is the cheapest option or going all out tt built motor. looking for a "safe" setup. please help I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING for the last 4hrs and havent really found much for the 5AT.
thnx in advance

thats all that would be needed? how much for valve body + install. thats the only thing i have read about when i searched. i geuss thats y its the only thing lol. so the auto tranny would have no problems handling 450+ with this upgrade?
Its been agreed on a while back that its not a good idea to push the stock 5AT tranny past 450whp. If your going to go past that # you should wait till GTM gets theirs out on the market. 450 + your going to need upgraded clutch packs,bands,etc.. Or you could just put a TH400 in it, but thats probably a little extreme for a daily driver.
SGP has an upgraded tranny package out now, but no one has posted a review on it yet(that I know of)...

At a minimum I would say upgrade the valve body and torque converter and get a very, very good trans cooler. Also might be a good idea to get a tran fluid temp gauge and monitor your temps. Heat is the killer of the 5AT.
There will be a review of the SGP race 5AT in a couple of weeks.

With 5AT or 6MT, for high power, you have to build the tranny though certainly the cost is likely less and better proven with the 6MT. It's just part of package that comes with high hp. I wouldn't give up on TT if you've got the funds to do it right.
Ron, are you getting it put in at FP? It'd be interesting to compare our two setups side by side...

SGP has quite a few options as far as beefing up the AT is concerned. Valve body is not the only option these days.

Tranny temp gauge, cooler w/ a temp regulated bypass, torque converter and valve body upgrade will do wonders until you can do a clutch pack rebuild. GTM has something in the works, SGP and SFR already have options available.
I have the SGP VB, it shifts pretty good. The TCU needs to relearn the shifting in auto mode, but its getting their. Pretty cool to have just a few basic NA mods and catch 2nd and 3rd with 285 tires when gunning it! Greddy TT going in soon.
I have a B&M 70268 cooler that I am installing after the factory cooler, it should knock off 15F-20F off the temps according to B&M. It has a low temp bypass feature built into it.

I am also installing a B&M 80277 remote filter kit since the factory trans has just a screen filter. This will also add more fuid capacity

I know the factory trans has a temp sensor for the TCU, is their anyway to access its info, maybe Cypher?

approx how much would a new torque converter and tranny cooler run with installation included. my guess would be about 2G's. just seeing what people who have these upgrades are paying

also would the tranny cooler really be necessary even if the car will not be tracked just everyday driving and full wot maybe 2 times a week. i dont drive much and when i do its babied for the most part. just want the power for when its needed thats all thnx
Trans coolers are under $100 for even a huge one. Mine was $50. Youll need to top off your fluid so a quart of matic-j is ~$9.00. They are super easy to install. A shop should be able to do it in 1hr MAX! Dependong on the labor rates, 50-100 MAX for a basic cooler install. So total could be $150 or so. For that cost its worth it for sure.
Now if you go overkill with braided lines etc and a HUGE cooler it will get MUCH more expensive.
