On a side note, technically wasn't Performance Motorsport the first in the four digits? They had something like 1500 hp two years ago and that was still a VQ35 I believe.
Correct. And it was a 3.5L not a stroked motor. But they never posted on the boards ever, and kept their HP numbers secret..
Great numbers none the less..

Thanks. That's some good food for thought...

I see the custom main girdle was necessary for the stroker kit? I'm guessing there really wouldn't be a noticable advantage in using this on a stock bore motor. Thoughts?

With the VQ being a V style motor, if I was looking for big power or high revs I would use the girdle even on a stock displacement to help keep the crank securely mounted in place.

On the stroker it is definitely a good idea as well for clearancing reasons. Not only is the girdle better than stock, but the stroker stock girdle takes one step backwards when you have to cut it down.

Well, the BC crank doesn't fit with the stock girdle?

It does, you just have to notch it.

Kits are available fully balanced ready to install or unbalanced.
Buying IP's girdle would save you time and hassle of notching the factory piece. Then as long as you get the balanced kit, you're looking at a drop in unit... (bore and hone work aside)

Hmm...I'm too lazy to look it up but I wonder what's the price difference between the BC stroker kit w/IP girdle and the GTM stroker kit.

IP's pricing is $5,735 for the sleeved and balanced kit. Girdle is $449. Soooooooo, total price for a balanced, sleeved, no-notching, drop in kit is a whopping $6,184. GTM pricing for parts only stroker is $5,800 with Arias pistons (no sleeves). If you want GTM to build it all out with sleeves, it's $8,900. But that's for a fully assembled shortblock with 12mm headstuds.

For what it's worth, both kits seem to be very nice. And pricing is on par for both (give or take a few hundred bucks).

At this point it's down to preference considering both kits have produced numbers north of 800whp...

It makes me cringe whenever I see the term "drop-in" used when referring to a stroker kit. No one who is planning on stroking there motor should expect it to be "drop-in." If it is a stroker kit worth doing there will be machining involved. Adam always tells me you can't put 20lbs of $hit in a 5lb bag.

Good point. I'm not trying to say this is a DIY, backyard mechanic's job by any stretch. Any time you crack open the block and start replacing pistons, rods, crank (stroked, over-bored, or stock sizing), etc, you should be prepared for the unexpected. If everything works out perfectly from the start, consider yourself lucky...

This information could not be less acurate if you tried..The Machine costs of our "drop in " Brian Crower 3.8 liter stroker was over $2700. There is tons of machine work needed, especially on the 4.1 L stroke..There is no such thing as a "drop in" stroker..

IPs pricing wasn't for an assembled short block? I thought that is what 'sleeved and balanced kit' meant, or is that just the parts?

welll its a stroker kit ..it cant be cheap... but in time turbo kits and fuel development will allow a block with sleeves to make the same power by compensating with more boost
