APS twin turbo with forged internals
Hi,
I've read so much stuff on this forum that contradicts everything.... so here I am sitting with the following spec : 350z, aps twin turbo, standard, race exhausts, twin plate clutch etc...
The question is, how much hp/kw do you get out on the WHEELS of a standard aps twin turbo kit if I do the following:
forged pistons 8:8 compression 0.2 oversize
forged rods
steal head gaskets
JWT spring kit
gasflow heads
bore + hone standard block
My personal needs are around 500 whp / 373 kw "on the wheels" and to fork out the cash for an upgraded ECU is a bit pricey... is it possible to get what I want out without upgrading the ECU. APS documentation says the fuel system is good for 600 hp / 447 kw under the hood but there is nothing about ECU limitations and they wont answer my email requests... THANX APS.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

You need to keep reading these forums. A simple 2 minute search in the correct forum, will yield build results similar to what your looking at doing with all the dyno numbers you can handle. The kit comes with a Unichip EM, but your gonna want to use at least a UTEC for the power level your looking at. Go read up in the Forced Induction subforum for all the info.
the Unichip APS provides can "get" you there (500whp), ... but only in the hands of a very capable tuner, ... for a 'safe' 500whp, i'd recommend at least a UTEC, of course you'd still need someone with the capability to tune it. UTEC=~$900.
Yeah APS struggles with the whole "customer service" thing. They make an excellent product for the consumer, but many vendors hate them.
On that kit, you will definitely exceed your 500 whp goal, no problem. But why are you going through the expense of building up the motor, installing a sweet TT kit, clutch etc, and neglecting the ECU?
UTEC is acceptable, but you really ought to consider the F-con, otherwise it's possible you could run into annoying issues like a CEL. If you don't have the cash yet, my advice SAVE!! Your project will easily hover around the 25K range.
In the meantime keep reading and learning.

the guy's location says he's in South Africa......I do not know of any "pro dealer" in his area...........
the UTEC or better yet, the new Haltech Platinum plug and play that Injected Performance is selling is his best bet....He WILL be able to find someone to tune those for sure.....especially the HALTECH!

Hi guys,
Thank you for all the advice, i am building the motor as Nissan says the rods are a week point, with the boost going close to 15 psi, the head gaskets and stud kits are necessary.
I got feedback from APS, they said the only issues that they would be concerned about is the compression and fuel octane. They said the engine management will not impact the desired goal...
the more I read the more confused I get... am going to see what happens... my build is going through nxgen, thats Craig... so not sure how good he is at this although he has done alot of work and is a few mags here and there.
Cheers

My Name is Nur and I built my car at NXGen. I have just completed my build with Forged Internals at another tuner and can provide you with lots of advise.

Hey Noer hows the build comming along.
It is my opinion and my tuners that the unichip should have no problem in handling your target power levels.
If you remeber when Melvin Imported his Skline R32 it had an FCon Pro but no one had the ability to tune it as it was not a ready available produvt here in RSA.
The system was swapped out to a Unichip ,that car ran in the 10sec bracket.
Nick Koens Skline also uses the unichip and he runs very low 10sec.
The Tuners in RSA have more knowledge of the Unichip not sue how knowledgeable they are of the Q version though.
I would definately upgrade the injectors though

Hey Tyronne,
I'm getting steve to do the build, he is quite good with the unichip, did u know that its made here in SA?
anyway, Steve is ready to go with this build, bought the parts from Noer and waiting for the shipment to arrive so will probably have the build done before you.
Steve said that its also possible to have to boost levels provided I get an EBC. Hope this stuff works...
Heres my mod list for the build:
- Zero Silicon Extreme Pistons .02 over
- Eagle rods
- L19 ARP head stud kit
- HKS head gasket
- arp main studs
- rev-up oil pump
- cosworth main,rod, thrust bearings
- gasket engine kit
- HKS boost controller.
Steves doing a street tune so hope we dont run out of road... will post dyno results, going to rob green for a dyno as well... two reads r better than one... if you know any heart breaker dynos let me know... like to keep it real
cheers

hey hey...
getting the car back tomorrow, some things that were additional... added an additional fuel pump, custom fuel return system with 700cc injectors thanx to Steve...
we also added an add on to the unichip from dastech... this basically limits the voltage sent out to 4.5 and handles the rest in regards to fuel air supply... what this means is that the unichip will be handling as much as we can throw at it... basically in South Africa we are limited by the quality of fuel, hope that the methonal injection helps that out, the meth will just be a minor flavour to this every day ride ....
will keep everyone updated but if its possible to get about 550 whp in SA with a unichip... this project will do it... dyno charts to follow after the run in and tune...
cheers
