Unhappy My baby went boom...

8 miles...thats all the further i got. the turbonetics kit is too much for the stock motor. this was really disappointing actually, my car just got done and i was so excited...then a hard pull blows it. my buddy is further investigating tonight, but we know theres a hole in the block somewhere.

i guess its time to search for a new motor? $1000 about...

no other way to go than to build if you ask me now, so itll sit til thats done. last night was a very long, late night

this is why a proper installation and tune is critical for FI. sorry bro. Good luck of the build.

Sorry to hear this, but you did not do something right.
Plain and simple. If it blew in 8 miles, something else was going on or not going on in there. The turbo just helped it surface quicker

You will realize that tuning is key on any turbo car. Esp a car that wasnt turboed from the factory.

Wow, quickest failure on the TN kit. Was a tune done before you decided to take it WOT?

a reply to all that asked:

no. we took it out for one ride, just to make sure everything was running properly. all it took was one hard pull to blow it. all i had done was the reflash done by turbonetics. this next time, it will be fully tuned before performing any pulls whatsoever.

im still afraid it wouldve blown on a dyno as well, but then again im not sure because i havent watched a car be dyno tuned.

the motor had 103,000 -> i dont know if this could add to the cause or not.

ive seen motors with 40K - 50K for $1000 - $1100 so after i get that, ill go from there. i didnt plan on needing extra money for something like this, so im going to be strapped (motor, better build, tuning) but we'll see how it goes.............very disappointed

you dont just turbo a car and do a pull to see how it does.
you drive around at part throttle and make sure that looks good. view timing and AFR.
Then start to ease into boost a little and correct the fueling and timing from there before doing a hard pull.

The shop that did this work should know better.
Turbos are great fun as long as you do enuff research and know how important tuning is.

Dont feel soo bad. I blew a $5k built bottom end at about the 1/8th mile marker on my first pass with it. I had it tuned and just something went wrong and it leaned out and popped on the first pass.
Turbo cars deff need more upkeep

Seems like it wasnt tuned rite. I see a lot of members here running 400whp on a stock block with that kit and no problems.

A lot of possibilities here and I am sorry to hear this.. I am also a TN owner.

It could be the mileage on the engine (rods) or it could be the fact that you were only using the reflash which has proven to be incompetent.

It blew at 8 miles? It was a tuning issue fair and simple. Some detonation was probably a factor. I wouldn't trust the TN flash alone either.

I don't think the "turbo was too much for the stock motor" is a valid explanation. Hope you get it sorted out.

The reflash for the TN kit, is spec'd for STOCK exhaust..

your sig says Tanabe Super Medalion.... free-er flowing ehxaust plus turbo might lead to the over boost issue. won't it?

who installed it?
