5AT: A detailed look at the trans used on 5AT Zs/Gs
I haven't seen these posted here before but I found them on a Titan site. The Titan uses the same trans as the Z/G. The links include a 3 part article on the trans and there is one attachment that has rebuild info for the trans. I see tons of people asking questions about their tranny and what it can hold but there doesn't seem to be a lot of info about the trans itself. Enjoy!

Excellent info Rob. It is a complicated trans to say the least. Heat is the killer. The "failsafe mode" is troubling but it works in saving the transmission from damage. I had it twice with my old transmission and that one now is in another car working extremely well.

Its good info, but I would consider it the "idiot's guide" to the RE5R05A. The FSM contains all this information and world's more, just in less layman's terms so it takes a bit more to understand. Still, a good primer for anybody new to this transmission who doesn't want to be overwhelmed.
Also, the rebuild info you posted is the general rebuild kit, not an upgrade kit. Here is the info on the Alto Red Eagle rebuild kits that would interest most people in this forum.

Titan has a much larger torque converter and bellhousing that is designed to handle the V8's torque and abuse of moving heavy weight wiht load, so they won't bolt right up. But the internal clutch packs are identical to what is on our vehicle.
I'm also very interested in this if anyone could answer the question ajcool2 is asking. Hey aj dont you have a 5at z do you have any launch techniques you could share with me i understand you hold your own at the drag strip. Oh one more thing how does the valve body upgrade work their has to be a difference though don't you think between a switch on your solenoid line and the valve body upgrade.

oh ok cool well hopefully we can do this to the z im very interested in this. Well this cause you to run better 1/4 mile times because of crisper shifts or would you not notice the difference. I will check my pm for the launching techniques and thank you very much.
