Default Vortech FMU ???

Ok... My car is getting fenders painted and is at the body shop... I checked on her yesterday and all was good... Today I stopped by and he told me that my fuel pump kept running after he shut the car off and the only way for them to get it to stop was to unplug the hot wire from the fuel pump...

When they would put the wire back in with keys out you can hear it whirrrrrring.... I'm at a loss... only thing I can think of is a short somewhere...

Any clues???

Thanks....

OH.... P.S. When I get a Walbro does the Vortech fuel pump go buh bye? or do I still need that as well?

Sounds like a possible SS box issue since it controls when the pump comes on.

You can choose to keep the inline or get rid of it if you want. The only catch is that you will need some sort of tune or flash if you were to get rid of it.

When you get a Walboro, the FMU and inline pump can go away.

From what Tech has told me before, the pump also comes out when the fuel line is pressurized. When I put my car key into the ignition and turn it to the slot before you turn the key on, I sometimes would hear the fuel pump working and sometimes not.

My guess is some wire got crossed or grounded when they took off the front fenders .I doubt the SS box just went bad on its own .

Yeah, thats what I am thinking as well... I have LED's in my wheel wells from the front to the back and I think they may have cut some of those and they may be shorting themselves out.... I am going to GUT all of my LED lighting and re- do it all and re-wire it since I now have a bit more experience since I did it the 1st time.

(yes I do all my lighting and wiring myself) ... (I know it is psychotic! but it's fun!)

Yea I'd re-check the wiring and make sure nothing got crossed with the red/black wire that goes to the fuel pump on the SS box. If it's all good then it's probably the SS box.

I oredered the Utec, 2.87, 660's, Walbro, and the GTM extra pulley to get more bite around the SC pulley.

I am going to get this stuff installed mid Sept I hope.

Same here, except I am going with 550's and getting my shop to do a custom pulley. Does the GTM pulley require you to tap your own hole in the mounting bracket?

No, you can tap it right on the car, about 10 mins to do actually.

I found the culprit to my fuel pump running... I put LED's under my wheel wells for shows and with the way I wired it "under the sideskirts" I cut a connection when I bottomed out and they were shorting out.

When I re-wire I will pull the sideskirts and run my wires in there.... "DuH"

I didnt read all the replies but its an SS box issue witch tells it to always be on. anyways you want to get rid of the whole system and just get a walboro, its safer and more reliable.

I thought even if you get a walbro you still need to run the Vortech pump as well?...

I have a Utec on the way also.

can 't u go with the 2.87 pulley without replacing stock injectors?
i already have a custom made pulley (3.0) and my AFRs are 11.5-11.8 @ 9.5psi boost @ redline...

it's not the A/F, it's the injectors duration cycle and fuel pressure

you risk killing your stock injectors, thus killing your engine

The fuel preasures will only be 6-8psi per 1 psi of boost higher than stock depending what FMU you have . You would have to look at your fuel maps to see if the duty cycle for the injectors are getting close to or over what the stock injector duration is . Lower than a 10 in any cell being hit , is less duration than stock .
You have to ask your self . Did Vortech make a fuel system running on the edge of being safe ? Or did they build in some hedge room with it ? Would Vortech put thier rep. on the line with a fuel system running on the edge of being safe ? At 9.5psi of boost you will have a long and happy boosting life with out any problems . If something like the FMU , aux. fuel pump , or something else goes bad . Then go and replace what comes with the kit to something a little better . But if it aint broke , why fix it !!!!
