Default TXS Boost control solenoid clicking at idle.......

I noticed some sort of clicking coming from under my hood last night when I was pulling into the garage. I popped the hood and whipped out my high-tech listening device (length of vacuum hose shoved into my ear. )

What I deiscovered was the TXS BCS was cycling. it was clicking away and you could hear the air coming out of the vent port.

This doesn't seem right at all! THE BCS shouldn't be doing anything at idle, I wouldn't think. Why would the UTEC be pulsing the ground trigger at idle or other non-boost conditions?

anyone who has one, will you check yours?

thanks,

Andrew

yeah, I noticed it right away when we installed them...sounded like valve tap or something. The solenoid was working correctly, and we had no issues, so I didnt even bother checking it out further.

Do these things fail open or shut? And open is good right?

it should fail in the shut position, which is what you'd want. Shut would not allow any boost signal to the top wastegate ports.

I thought you would want it to send signal so the WG opens?

the side port on the wastegate is the port that opens the wastegate under boost. the boost lines going to the side ports come before the BCS. if the BCS were to fail in the open position, your have boost sent to the top and side ports, eseentially cancelling eachother out...and the wastegate would be held closed due to the internal wastegate spring. Can you say OVERBOOST!?!?!?!

I guess I'm a little confused, normally with no BCS the Turbo will send a reference of what it is putting out to the WG. A BSC modifies that signal to keep the WG closed longer so that you can permit more exhaust to go to the Turbo and achieve more power right? So I would think that if the BCS were fully open it would be like it was not even there and the WG would perform based on the spring inside it.

Or do you have 2 lines hooked up to the WG with a BCS?

I am utilizing both ports on the wastegate.

you are thinking of a bleeder type boost controller which lowers the boost signal send to the side port of the wastegate.
