Can't you just buy the Garrett GT25 turbo core and call it a day?
Also, didn't Garrett have some sort of rebuild specials where they give you a new core for only $400?? I remember Tig did this.

You might still have some oil in your exhaust system.. Put some more miles and see if the smoke disappears. I hear that Garrett turbo seal doesn't go bad easily..

most guys that rebuild their APS TT I believe send it out to Cali and get the housing machined and install GT28 centers.

I believe GTM knows more about this you can ask them.

YOu can rebuild it urself. Just order a new centre section. its a simple swap. measure the wheels and specificy the trim u need. Ball bearing turbos cant be rebuilt because they use parts which break when opened up. So u need a new centre. That said, make sure ur oil level is good. It cant be over the bottom line or you will smoke. As a last resort before rebuilding, you can also add a oil pressure restrictor to the turbo.

I have heard of a recommendation for JWT TT oil return lines to be tapped higher into the upper oil pan to avoid being returned to a high pressure oil pool. Is there some similar fix that can be applied for the APS to help minimize oil return backpressure?

^ i was thinking the same thing when reading a recent thread on JWT. I did check the oil level again today, if any its about 1/16th over the L hatch marks. By no means is my car smoking badly, just on WOT at the beginning then at constant WOT it doesn't smoke, its like right when you smash the pedal to the floor.

Andrew,

Did/do you install a catch can? That might help with all these oil problems you're having.

Take your car to a shop and run it on the dyno. have a look for yourself what is coming out the exhaust before you decide to rip into the car and rebuilding/replacing turbos.

the issues I have seen are not at WOT, but at decel as you come off throttle. I would still say it is just unburnt fuel

I have the same issue with my car. Just had my engine built and done 250 miles on motor so far. I get smoke coming from right side exhaust under deceleration. My tuner says that my turbos are fine, he also says that the oil is at APS recommended level. How can you check for Seal damage? Sorry to hijack.. maybe we can figure out this issue together because our problem is very similar. I have done 2000 miles on my Turbos and always had smoke coming from car under deceleration and also trimmed oil return pipe as per APS instructions.

I have the same exact problem with my JWT TT setup, smoke under decel. I have tried many different things including tapping the upper oil pan above the oil level and I still have a small amount of smoke. I have switched to a thicker oil, (20W50) and the smoke level has decreased but it is still there when the car is really hot. If I figure anything out with my setup I will update this thread.

I don't have smoke under decel, only at WOT

I also wonder if the Rev-up engine has something to do with it. I wonder if the extra exhaust valve or whatever is messing with the seals.

That's the first I've heard of this happening on the JWT kit, but isn't surprising since they use Garrett turbos in pretty much the same config...

Im starting to have the same issue out of nowhere. Mine (Greddy TT) smokes at WOT a lil then a lil more when u let off the pedal. It seems fine at idle and drives normal. Its scaring me a little cause i dont want the motor poppin on me. What solutions did u guys have.?

Also how could it be unburnt fuel as another person stated (school me)? I will say that all this happened after a full tank refill and i did smell gas after the fill up...

I just went out and started the car - No Smoke

Idle - No Smoke

Drove around - No Smoke

WOT hold at 6500 RPM - No Smoke

WOT Rev to 6500 RPM and release - Light Smoke

Quick Revs to 6500 RPM's and release and re-rev back to 6500 RPM- Light Smoke

But it never use to do that at all... - want it back to how it was. I been boosted for about 12k miles or so and this starts up now. I change my oil religiously at around 1800 to 2000 miles. How can I resolve this? Bothers me so much I started pricing and researching a built block cause I'm getting blown motor paranoia..lol.lol
