Default APS Single Turbo: Dealer says needs new turbo???

The car went in for a new clutch and when they took the exhaust off, they said about a cup of oil came out. They said the turbo needs to be replaced because the seal is leaking.

I'm thinking its either the electronic check valve or the scavenger pump.

Any help on this would be great! Thanks

More than likely its the valve or the pump just like you said. IMO its the classic APS ST scenario... GL

typical aps issue, the turbo is fine, change the solenoid, drain the intercooler, make sure the sump is working, clean out the exhaust. it will be fine.

I was hoping it was just that. I will let the dealer know to check the solenoid and sump pump. The solenoid should only let oil out of the line when the key is turned on? How would a guy check the sump pump?

thanks for the help!

Just get someone to turn the key to the on position while you put your hand underneath the car on the sump pump. You should feel it vibrate or cycle once the key is in the "on" position.

I had the same problem when I had my aps st. After a year of driving, my scavenge pump started to die on me.. It was pumping out less and less oil from the turbo, so oil started to leak from the turbo. Since then, I sold my st kit to my buddy and I helped him install a new pump (turbowerx pump similar to mocal pump) and now there is absolutely no oil leak from the turbo.. Weldon pump that APS provides is a race pump, and people say that weldon pump needs to be rebuilt almost once a year..

Bad pump... Follow the advice posted and replace the pump with a mocal or turbowerx unit. Problem solved.

Thanks a lot for the tip guys! Do any of you happen to have a part number for the other pumps?

I got this:

Now, it's not a direct replcement. You have to be creative with a new pump... Here is a rough write up:

The pump and solenoid work only when the car is turned on. when you turn the key, the solenoid opens and allows flow to the turbo and at the same time the return sump is pumping the oil back to the pan.

You need a solenoid otherwise when you turn the car off the oil will continue to gravity feed to the turbo
