Look at GTM's thread on a built TN ST. With a properly built motor and tune you can break the 500whp mark with this kit.

^ Yep

How funny it is to read back a few pages in this thread, and then read GTM's thread.

Im Seriously considering an aps ST setup in the spring... i dont want crazy power, i never have intentions to build the motor, i just think a ST setup will be more reliable for me in the long run than a Vortech SC setup or procharger.

My last car was a porsche 944turbo (951), and i can honestly say i miss the boost bug.

I will also be driving to NH to an authorized and well known APS dealer/installer and having them tune the car VERY conservatively.\

As i said, im not looking for insane power just a little more kick in the ***.

well after much research and thought I have decided to go with the Turbonetics Single Turbo kit. I feel it will provide plenty of power for my needs and I think the easier installation is really what made my decision. I plan to install the kit in my garage over the winter and the aps kit just seems more complex. The only part that I have issues with is assembling the new fuel pump and the fuel basket. I am going to take my chances and double wrap everything to avoid heat issues and I am going to keep it simple and go with the reflash. I just don't have any shops here or around Columbus, OH that have much experience tuning these cars. I have one question though. Is it worth spending the extra money and the risk of more things to go wrong on the water lines and go with water cooling? I understand that all of the new TN turbos have the ability to be water cooled.

Tips -

Don't use header wrap to wrap the AC line. Use DEI Fire Sheath or doulbe layer Heat Sheath with Cool Tube Extreme (see my testing the waters thread)

Yes, get some water lines.

Be very precise in the fuel bucket modification, it can throw off your tune if done incorrectly.

Install at least boost and AFR gauges.

Before even thinking of hitting boost, take it to a Dyno and have it run with AFR's graphed to make sure its safe.

If the reflash tune is off on your car, consider picking up a used utec and grab a base map and go from there.

Good luck!

Probably because they've sold very little in the first place.

I am sorry to hear that....

There is a reason the APS kit looks more complex; because it is better and more complete.

For what it's worth, don't rely on the reflash. The higher charge temps with the TN kit make it a more of a risk of detonation... making the tune more critical. Don't skimp on it. Make a drive to a proper shop and have them set you up with at least a unichip or utec and load based tune

If you dont have the funds for the "What if" , then you should be careful going F/I. Buying a used kit is a risk if you dont know where it is comming from.

Laugh back at ya...... may original statement and project goal was how much power could be made on pumpgas without cams.

This was GTM's result.... with cams and 91 octane.

You still can't come close to making 500whp with the TN kit on pumpgas and no cams. Sorry!

I'd be surprised if the APS unit could do much better than that with no cams. However, I see absolutely no reason why you'd go through the trouble of building a motor without putting aftermarket cams in it.

Doesn't an extra $2500 seem like a good reason? Ballers are so baller they are unable to see the plight of the common working man.

Perhaps he meant cams and labor on an unopened motor. However if he was chaged 2500 for cams while the engine was being built,he got ripped off.
