APS or TN?

As for the APS Kit the things like wiring in the electric oil pump that worry me as I have no clue how to do that. The only part about the TN install that worries me is the new fuel pump and the modifications that need to be made to the regulator and the basket. I can send that out and have a shop do that and have even talked with a few that would do this for me if I bought the kit from that and all I would have to do is ship my stock basket to them. I agree that the APS is probably a better kit by design and it locates the turbo closer to the manifolds and below the engine for heat and turbo response issues. Again I would have to find a tuner to tune this kit as it comes with a piggy back ems. I'm willing to take my chances on the reflash as a bad or inexperienced tuner can be just as if not more risky. I live in Columbus, OH and right now the closest "experienced" tuner is about 500 or more miles away. So does anyone know of any good shops in or around Ohio? Secondly what are the experiences of those out there with just having a Reflash and the TN kit? I think Taurran had his for like two years without any issues. I only drive this car about 1000 miles a month and it's parked all winter.

If you are concerned with tapping a few wires, you may want to take whatever kit you do end up running to a shop and have them install and tune.
If you are in OH, look up GRD in IL... they are only 370 miles away and can definitely do any kit you choose
I will say that the APS Kit install instructions are more difficult to understand that the TN instructions. I will check into maybe getting the TN tuner kit and I will call GRD (Thanks Zivman). The 380cc injectors make me a little nervous too. Well I am still leaning towards the Turbonetics but that is also why I am taking my time, doing research and reading what everyone has to say on here. Adding a FI kit is certainly something that shouldn't be rushed into unless you have a "quality" shop recommend and install it. Many ask why I don't just have a shop install it, well part of me thinks it would be a rewarding and fun experience to do it myself. Plus I would rather take the $1500 I would save on labor and buy some cool tools
Has anyone ever bought a TN kit as a tuner kit? I will call tomorrow about pricing but from the advice from people on this thread I might be looking at going with a UTECH and some injectors. Any suggestions on brand name and cc size of injectors but I want to make sure it idles smoothly so I was thinking 440s or 500s. Also I understand that there are some additional sensors that are needed to use the UTECH. Lastly am I going to have to splice in this or is there a way to piggyback it into my stock ecu? Thanks for all of your help!

Everyone says to go with the UTECH, is the Jim Wolf one just a Fuel Management Unit? Can anyone explain to me if a UTECH can do everything a FMU can and also controls......? If I were able to use a harness and plug it in could I drive it 300+ miles to get it tuned? I don't think there ane any good tuners near ohio, at lease none that I have heard mentioned on this site.

Get the utech it is plug & play. They have a base map on there website you can load into it. But it is not safe enough for a 300 mile trip. Get some 440 cc injectors. Also if you can get a fuel set up from a aps tt or st. It will take care of your fuel setup up to 12lbs of boost with these injectors. Now if you don't have a shop to tune your set up close by then have grd install and tune your set up. If you set up the utech wrong you will blow your motor once you get into boost.
Not trying to start an arguement here but if I had it to do over I would get 550cc injectors. I guess it all depends how far you want to push it, but I am stuck @ 420rwhp until I go bigger on the injectors. The tuner kit should have been the way I went, but if you don't get the H.P. bug, the kit the way it comes is good for +/- 385 rwhp and super reliable.
And let the flaming begin!......
P.S. if you plan on a UTEC, you must want more than the "stock" T.N. set up. The reflash was spot on for me, but why pay for that if you just bump it by adding a UTEC?

I guess it's going to boil down to if I can find a good tuner in or near Ohio. I would rather go with the flash if I can't find a relatively close tuner. Personally I want this to last for awhile and I would be completely happy with 350-385whp. I understand this won't be a fast car compared to the cars most of you guys drive but it would keep me happy for awhile. Does this kind of power get boring? I read a lot about guys putting down 500, 600, and up to the wheels. I would just think on street tires there would be a lot of wheel spin in the first three gears and anything below 80mph. Plus I want to autocross, road race and drag race once or twice this year so I don't want to be pushing too hard on my stock internals. I will say a lot of you are lucky to have access to such great shops as I would love to give my car to one of the shops on this forum to be tuned properly and conservatively with a utech. If anyone knows any good shops in Ohio, please let me know. I know of one shop here in Columbus (IPS Motorsports http://www.ipsmotorsports.net) but they have only done one twin turbo 350 and that is their total experience with a FI 350, though they have done a lot with TT 300zx's. They have a lot of sweet cars (Twin Turbo Vettes, 1000 hp Supras etc.) in their shop and seem to really know what they are doing, I just get nervous when they don't have experience with my exact car. If any of you get a chance, check this site out and tell me what you think of them, I could get the Utech and tune then but I'd like to get your opinions.

- it would be foolish to rely on the relash. You have better options in terms of tuning. IMHO a base tune on an APS single would be a better option considering it at least can see boost and gives you the option to get a custom tune without purchasing a separate EMS. You can always get a utec or comparable EMS and then find a tuner... the flash is just too risky IMHO
- you have options with shops. You stated shops in columbus OH so I just mapped out how far the shop (GRD in Villa Park, IL) that I go to is from OH, and it is a mere 370 miles from columbus - about a 5 hr drive. That is fairly close IMHO. You have the option of shipping your car to shops like MRC or Forged as well
