Help from FI Guru's
Hi,
First post here, my friend has a 350z (2004) and was interested in turboing it. I had a few questions about the different kits available. This is the first forum i have looked at for 350z's but i am not new to forced induction...I was wondering on the consensus of a single turb vs TT applications for the 350z.
Are there any vendors here that sell the kits, i looked in the gb section but there was very little to no informations for FI products on sale so...
I know you all are going to say use the Search button n00b but i have done some searching, i looked at the sticky's at the top and also read the 100 Question thread that is in a moderators sig.
My first question is do people normally run these turbo kits with the stop CR? I believe the CR is 10.3:1 or somewhere in that range. Has the stock motor been tested to see how much boost it will take for the HG to pop or to throw a rod or what not?
For tuning do most kits include an ECU/DME reflash or most people go for piggy back or standalone systems?
Do you all have problems with the chasis, subframe, diff, axles? Any reenforcement needed in those areas in terms of a Stg 1 kit? I know for people who go for more power these items are probably fixed/replaced accordingly...
Lastly, after all is said and done, does the car still drive like a nice stock 350z until you really mash on the gas pedal?
Just want o know about the reliability and feel for different kits. I dont want to have a friend who has a car in the shop all the time and needs a ride lol.
I cant really think of any other questions right now, im sure ill have more as you all answer the questions. Im sorry i know the questions are all over the place just trying to get people's opinions on different kits...Im a car enthusiast and although i dont have a 350 i sure do like the look and feel of the car (I especially like the exhaust note). Thanks all the way from Iraq, ill be home in a few months and hope to have some boost in my life too!

I just got my car back about 2 weeks ago after getting my TT kit installed, and i can honestly say the car DOES drive just like it did stock until you mash it and the dumps open up
.
Here are a few tips to consider based on my research:
1) GET THE GREDDY KIT. This is the most reliable and common kit IMO if all the neccessary issues are addressed. This kit is capable of around 600whp and has been done time and time again. Only down side is you must upgrade the engine mgmt and get a bov.
2) Get a Utec, Map Sensor, Map Switch, to do the tunning. I have this on my car and have yet to have any issues. Car drives very smoothly.
3) Keep the 440cc injectors. If he is keeping the stock block, these are all he needs. Combined w/ a fuel return kit these injectors are good for around 450whp w/ a safe injector duty cycle and will allow for a very smooth idle and start up.
4) GET A FUEL RETURN SYSTEM and a walboro fuel pump. This will allow for adjustments to fuel pressure and will make the car much more predictable when tunning. Also will help w/ hot start-ups. I would suggest the CJM kit
5) Get the car tunned by one of the shops on this forum who are experienced w/ a utec. Makes for a much smoother install experience.
6) I would suggest either getting the HKS evc 6 or Blitz boost controllers. Based on my research these are the most stable boost controllers on the market.
7) Upgrade the clutch. Which one will depend on what his goals are. I have a clutchmasters 6 puck clutch and i absolutley love it.
Other than all that nothing else is really required (unless i left something out
). Hope this helps a little. Some of my suggestions might SEEM to be excessive, but trust me after lurking around this website for a couple of years and talking to numerous shops they all will pretty much reccomend the same thing.

Must be fun. I will keep all the above information in mind when it comes time if he does go FI. He had a problem with his stock clutch to where it would or wouldnt disengage all the way on the free way and the clutch went out. Since he ahd to replace it he moved to a performance clutch so he should be good in that department. Do you have to replace your stock cooling system with the added heat from the turbo's and what do you do to keep the underhood temps down as i guess it would get VERY hot under there? If you dont mind how much you paid for the kit and engine management plus the fuel system? Im not sure if i can recieve PM's but you can PM me if you would not like to disclose that information on the board. Thanks.Ive read on the internet that Greddy is or has carb #/sticker. Does this kit have it, legal in California for smog? TIA

Greddy would probably be the "Best Bang For The Buck". Along with other modification that have already been listed above. Have professionally installed. Just wish Greddy would make a tuner kit. Now that would be nice.
The JWT is a great kit with several optional upgraded turbo's. Little more cost, but worth it.

Not a lot of DIY guys or do you have to pull the engine to install the manifold+turbo? I know there is little to no room (well judging from the pictures).
Edit: Also are you all retaining your PS, AC?

[QUOTE=friends350]
it is far easier to pull the engine. You can install it while the motor is in the car but it isn't worth the hassle
