Does anyone know what brand would provide a turbo kit for the 350z? I heard that Greddy made a turbo kit for the 350z but i checked and nothing under the 350z. Could it be that the 350z is still too new?

 

Yes, it could be.

 

First of all, NO ONE has a production twin turbo kit out. Greddy is the closest to selling. Top Secret, Power Enterprise, and HKS all have twin turbo kits in the making. Top Secret is making ~432RWHP. Greddy is making ~465RWHP@5.6lbs. of boost. Power Enterprise has pics but no power information yet. HKS, the only reason we know this is because of axis's 350Z show car, luckily the owner is a member of this forum. He said that they are in the process of making a twin turbo kit for his car. Second of all, you didn't check out the right place at all if you haven't found anything about the Greddy 350Z. It has been in mags the past month(s). And you can go to http://www.greddy.com and they have a huge home page banner of the 350Z. It is because the Z is still new, if you consider 10months old - new. If I had the money or the support of a big company like Nismo, Apexi, Turbo XS, I would have already made, made the most horsepower with, and started producing twin turbo kits and maybe even single turbo kits as well. I would have already made every internal like pistons, rods, camshafts, crankshafts, valves, valve retainers, sleeves, etc. Anyway, WHAT IS TAKING YOU COMPANIES SO LONG, YOU'RE KILLING US FOR THE WAIT. But I guess good (and to wait this long, it better be great) things come to those who wait.

 

You can already get pistons, rods, cams, valves, retainers, and mostly everything else for the VQ35. There is nothing special about the VQ35 which stops you from calling JE pistons and asking for a certain size piston - once you know the combustion chamber size of your heads you can calculate what kind of piston dish you need to arrive at a certain compression ratio. SGP already has a set of rods available (you could call Crower and have them make you a set of rods anyway), the crank is usually the last thing to worry about in an engine buildup (in fact is very rarely needed). Valves are the same story as pistons - give Ferrea a call and give them your valve sizes and you are set. From my understanding there is no need to sleeve the VQ35 block as it is already fairly well supported with 4 bolt mains - I am building a block for forced induction purposes so we will find out just how strong shortly.

Just takes a little homework...the only things you really have to wait for are pre-made kits for all this stuff, specifically turbos.

Yep, Greddy is at about 350 whp with 5.6 psi. I don't think it would be possible to get that kind of power out of this engine at that boost.

 

First, at 5.6 psi and a cat-back it did 334 rwhp. See the following:

What they don't tell you, is that dyno was without an intercooler. Even though the pictures show the intercooler, the dyno was before it. They are introducing a base turbo kit and the intercooler is an upgrade. This is the same as they sell their RX7 and Supra turbo upgrade kits without an intercooler. At 7 psi with the intercooler, they did 393 rwhp a few of weeks ago. At 10 psi, they were at 440 rwhp. When they hit 470 rwhp, it wasn't pretty. Basically, they got to learn the limits of the internals in the stock engine.

 

Last I heard 465 is what the Top Secret kit was making but I can't remember where I read it so take it FWIW... *shrug*

Loren04G35, that is good info. Do you mind if I ask where you read that and if you know what the details were on the motors? Like if it was 100% stock internals or what.

I'm thinking about pulling my motor and installing some rods, pistons, and considering sleeving it in advance. I just don't know as much as I'd like to about the VQ stock tolerances before I start spending cash on it.

I get my info from an inside source, directly at Greddy. It helps when you know the people who are loaning them test cars. As far as the motors go, they are all stock. The failure happened on a stock motor, all stock internals. The kit is being released as a bolt-on for stock cars. There will be separate upgrades to go further. They are putting in turbos that can support somewhere between 24 and 30 psi of boost on this engine, but obviously the engine can't take that out of the box. So, the kit is designed if you want to upgrade the internals and the fuel system, then you don't have to change the kit to make more power, but it is coming with low boost to work reliably with a stock motor. Then, down the line, you just turn up the boost.

 

I believe HKS Kyushu has a single turbo kit for the 350Z. Not sure if it is in production.
