I have a JWT TTkit with 530bb and a stock block. I was considering honing the cylinders and running stock bore forged pistons and forged rods is this a good idea (or is it a short cut that will cost me more money in the end)?? I take occasional trips to the drag strip and road coarse but 98% street driven I want to be at a reliable 450ish whp I am currently an uncorrected 370whp. Thanks in advance for any help.

 

you could get away with it...depending on how many miles are on the current block. It is advisable to go .020" over though.

 

60,000 miles (Hiway miles by previous owner) on the block no issues. I know 0.020over is ideal but I am wondering if honed and stock bore is a cheap reliable alternative to aviod .020 over and save $$$. As my HP goals arent that high and I only put about 3000miles a year on my car.

 

Typically, with forged pistons you do need to re-bore the block. Expansion rates are much different for cast (stock) and forged (aftermarket) pistons. You really want a new and fresh bore for forged pistons. You are asking for ring sealing issues and piston slap if you try to go cheap.

 

saving money and building a motor dont go well together. g356gear is correct.

 

also the pistons i believe are matched to the cylinders at the factory and not every cylinder is going to be the exact same that is why it is normally suggested to bore .020

 

With 60k I would do an overbore.

 

I thought 0.020over is the way to go but I just needed a few guys to reenforce it for thanks for the help.

 

you really need to fully balance the crank to the new internals. it probably wont last long like that. if you take out the crank, you might as well do it right. honing and boring only wont add too much to the project costs.

Well--Whats right is right. Sometimes agreements just HAVE to happen.

Really though, Just a shame to get that far and not do 100%. Id feel as though I got to fondle but not to screw. Overall balance is what makes it work
