Default Just had a big scare ....

Driving back to work after a pleasant lunch at home, got on it a bit, pulled like crazy then ... splutter splutter splutter ... hmm, oil pressure good ... splutter splutter splutter ... no power, slowing down ... splutter splutter splutter ... damn it's running rich ... splutter splutter splutter ... must .. make .. it .. back .. to .. work ...

Well, she finally died on the off ramp just by my work, tried to start her again as I was about 200 yards from a nice enclosed parking lot ... but no luck, so, with hazards on I pop the hood and jump out ...

As a total side note, if you drove up behind a car with it's hazards on and hood open and a dude poking his head under there looking fraught, wouldn't you drive around ???? Apparently this is not the default behavior for a bunch of people.

Well, it turns out that I had blown off the silicone house after the MAF and because I had a screwdriver in the car fixed it in a jiffy.

But man, this scared the crap out of me ...

I had something of this nature before. The second coupling before the throttle body on a TN kit had backed off slightly. I was in full boost and then all of a sudden no boost and the sputter started to happen on full throttle only. Freaked me out. Car didn't shut off though. I kind of figured it was that issue, for I had just worked on it the day before.

The things that run thru your head, and then it ends up being simple. Almost makes you glad that it happens sometimes as it reminds you to keep an eye on everything without costing you a bundle of cash for parts. I had my oil pressure sensor wires get wacked out by a shredded belt... see how you feel when your boosting hard and then your oil pressure gauge drops to zero and the idiot light comes on!!!

I can't even imagine, the first thing I looked at was my oil pressure gauge ... I'm just so glad it wasn't anything bad ...

Happened to me once and the car shut down on me while going around a corner. I almost jumped the curb into someone's front yard but jerked the wheel over just in time.

Did it throw a code when that happened?

In my case, it didn't throw a code.

It was the MASSIVE amounts of un-metered air being sucked in after the MAF.

Due to no cats I have perma-code so I'm not sure if it threw another code.

And then I did this cos I suck, but this has nothing to do with loose piping ...

that just seems backwards. Wouldnt the unmetered air cause a lean condition?

My vrotech did the same thing. The coupler popped off the throttle body. Big black smoke and a stalled motor that wouldnt crank. I was scared shltless. managed to coast a ways and pull over to pop the hood and find the issue.

I'm guessing that the ECU is seriously over compensating because it sensed being super lean, or something like that ...

Ahh hell, I don't know ...

thats what im saying. I understand the maf is sending a 'no metered air' type of signal, its the what does the ecu do such case.

Glad it was ok though. I had under 130 miles on mine when it happened.
