Default First thing to go..

When adding FI what is typically the weakest part on the motor /trans to go? I am just speaking in the sence on buying a Greddy kit or some other kit and throwing it on. Rods? Pistons?

Taking history into account, I would say connecting rods... but while you're in there pistons, L19 studs and a good head gasket... A clutch upgrade is a good idea as well...

Definetly the connecting rods are the weak link. If the tune is a good one the connecting rods will be the first to go. A bad tune and you will probably crack a ringland first.

Everything aside from the clutch in the Trans is quite strong. Engine wise, the rods are definitely the weakest link.. We made 550whp/600tq on a GT35R Kit from powerlab (stock engine) for a while, then when we turned the boost up past that we folded 5 rods

They will fail long before 550whp. I had a rod fail @ 410whp.

Right is included for free... Left costs about $500 or so (just the rods). It is not worth your block to be cheap when playing with high boost FI.

400 to 500 horse power numbers do not always take out the VQ's stock rod's. its the high tourqe numbers that bend these puppys. (turbos = full boost around 3000rpm's = high tourqe numbers = bent stock rod's.

Those 2 images really do put it into perspective.

+1. It's not the same making 400 whp on a turbo and 400whp on a supercharger.

With a turbo, peak boost occurs at peak cylinder pressures (max torque), wheras a supercharger is only producing around 4 psi at that point.

I'd always heard the stock rods were pencil di*ked but that pic image makes the difference crystal clear. With that said I cant wait to save up for my engine build.

If just getting a kit and leaving it at like 5psi (I am guessing that is what those kits come pre-set at) I would be fine correct?

just make sure you have money saved up for a new block. never know what is going to happen. FI is not cheap and you better understand that all sorts of things can and WILL happen. If you dont have an extra 10K in savings, it can hit you pretty hard.

a bad tune and it doesnt matter how little boost you are using...boom

I agree with rods

I chucked 2 out of the side of my block at 390ft/lbs with a weaksauce set-up...BUT I Drive my car like sports car should be driven. Many FI members claim to drive hard and actually drive like my grandma. Take it for what its worth.
