Vortech Custom CAI
We're bacccccccck!
Vortech.......great service, lots of help with correcting the KERBLAMMO, took a bit of turn-around time, supplied lots of little bits and pieces to re-accomplish the install in a 'tighter' fashion, etc., etc., etc. (positive public service announcement provided for all of the beyond-the-call-of-duty customer service that Vortech mustered up despite being slightly overwhelmed with everybody else's problems).
While we had everything taken apart we decided to install the custom CAI to make changing the air filter easier. We used the parts from the Injen CAI (the short hard pipe and the long silicon coupler) with the Vortech air filter. It all fits in behind the stock bumper cover and foam cushion (with just a little bit of trimming to provide clearance). We did have to 'customize' the Wolo horns just a bit but they still work fine.
As you can see, I finally got that embedded picture thing figured out. I hope that this provides some ideas on doing a better Vortech CAI

Looks pretty good IMO. I like what your did with the intercooler, is that just painted black or did you use a thermal dispersant coating? Don't give anyone a heartattack with those horns. LOL.

As to the airflow, we had been a bit concerned about that but it seems to do well on the initial test runs. We had thought about cutting the foam cushion just in front of the filter to provide a channel so that air will flow away from the high pressure area in front of the intercooler and over the aluminum beam and back to the filter. Given the relative vacuum created by the supercharger impeller the pressure differential should easily drive sufficient air through the intake. This should also still protect from 'hydrolock'.
