Default Just thought of something.

Ok, i have been struggling with passing emissions. Long story short. I need to pass and an idea popped into my head...

I have a turbonetics kit and no cats

I was thinking about taking off all the exhaust pipes coming from the headers to the wastegate to the turbo and so on. And then install oem cats and regualr exhaust just to pass emissions and take it back off.

Obviously the turbo wont be spooling due to lack of pipes which is not anything to worry about.

What worries me is, i have a ecu reflash which will give you a rich mixture. Is it safe to drive on a 11:1 mixture on a stock motor without boost. i have 380 cc injectors also.

Pretty much, i just need to drive to the emissions center, do the sniffer test and thats it.

Lastly, does anyone have stock cats and y pipe for sale?

You might want to check your states requirements for the emm check as a lot of states only plug into the obd11 port and check for dtc,s.

Yes, my state does OBD. Thank you for stating that but that was not my question.

I cant rely on obd which is why i found shops that do a dyno run with the sniffer.

if your car doesn't pop anykind of engine light without the o2 simulator or something, you WILL pass, on obd2 cars they do not check for o2 reading, just plug and they check for anykind of engine light faileur.

Edit:

I just remembered that you always had an attitude so I'll erase my post.

Thats because people dont answer questions on this site and rather say w/e they want. It gets irritating after a while. and thats real mature of what you did. Good to know, im the only adult here.

I asked if it would be safe to drive the car real rich on a stock motor without boost. And i get a response about OBD2.

I know all about emissions. I know all about my State.

Is it really that complicated to answer my question. Im not asking for much.

Now this thread has gone down the hole. LOL. dammit.

Incorrect, many states (CT, NY, NoVA, CA, and few others) do a comprehensive emissions test with your car on rollers and a sniffer in the tailpipe.

OK i'll try and help. The ecu w/flash in open loop still uses the maf and since you won't be pushing as much air with no boost then you probably won't run that rich. Do they go full throttle for a while on the rollers? You should be ok but I would think it would be cheaper to weld in a converter and then make a test pipe so you can switch back and forth easily.

well they keep the rpms at 2500 or 20mph for 2 mins. I do emissions my self but not for a shop.

and i think im gonna stick with my idea because i think its deff gonna work. Im trying to stay away from spending more money than i have to

So i was just working on the car and removed some pipes. Just 2 more left and i can install oem cats and exhaust.
