Default My new APS TT on a Stock Block

Hey All,

So after a couple of years of 100% trouble free Vortech action... I decided to take the plunge into the TT world. I'm well aware of all the risks, especially on a stock motor. But heck... you only live once. I figure if it blows... I'll rebuild it. But I'm hoping to get some decent longevity out of the motor. My shop has done a number of TT's on stock motors that have lasted a long time and still going.

Previously my car made 420whp and 340 lb ft with the Vortech.

Now I'm making 444 whp and 418 lb. ft. and absolutely LOVING it!
Thanks to Rob and the guys at Z Car Garage!!!

Anyway... just wanted to share my recent escapade. Wish me luck!!!

Adolfo

awesome
the APS TT is a really nice kit. At the time I was considering FI, I was trying to decide between it vs the vortech.

Bearing in mind you're pushing the APS TT kit harder than the vortech, how would you compare them since you've now spent a lot of time with both?

A review would be nice, . Differences in feel of both, etc. I am on the same road as you. Sold my Vortech and am awaiting my TT install.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. Much appreciated.

I'll write something more detailed later as I'm on my way out the door. But it's really a totally different car now. The torque is really on tap anytime you want it. The Vortech is a really nice and rock solid set up, but you really have to mash it to get the power out of it because of the nature of the power band.

The APS is just power on demand. Much more like having a V8 where the torque is just there all of the time.

The car is much quieter now as well. It allows you to hear the lope from the cams and the exhaust has a much throatier sound to it now. Also because of it's quiet nature... it's very stealth. I blacked out the intercooler so you really can't see what's comin' up on you.

In a nutshell... it's just a totally different car now. Drives, sounds, accellerates completely different and just puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel.

Congratulations on the new setup. I'm considering a TT setup down the road myself. What did your tuner say about the 'safe' range for WHP/Torque for a stock block? I've heard 350 to 400 hp/tq in the small amount of research that I've done.

400-450whp would be the average estimate, but people have pushed higher with longer miles than others. I am shooting for around 450whp, but am adding meth/water injection to increase engine longevity and maybe add some more power.

meth will slowly eat away at the aluminum in the engine though and eventually cause problems way down the road.

If I had E85 near me, I'd be using water/E85 and not water/meth.

I've never heard any problems from people using 100% meth for a long time. The rate of decay is probably minimal. I am guessing you would maybe see something with 150+k of straight meth use. I was actually going with straight water because I only want detonation protection, but adding a little meth will cut down on the chances of "quench" drastically and raise my octane a bit more.

Sentry, aren't you using 50/50 mix of meth/water?

DMK is pretty much right on the money. It really depends from car to car on how it respnods to the kit. He pulled out quite a bit of timing and boost to make it a very conservative tune. Also keep in mind that I'm running cams, which respond really well to FI. So I'm probably seeing an extra 30-40 hp without having to run more boost.

It's also tuned for our crappy 91 octane out here, but he recommends I mix in a bit of 100 octane everytime I fill up as a cheap insurance policy. Also to be very dilligent about checking my oil levels.

I gotta tell ya fellas. Superchargers are cool... but TURBOS are the SH*T!!!

Thanks again for all the kind words!!!

ABSOLUTELY!!!

If you noticed my original post... I'm well aware of the risks and will build if "I have to".

I plan to do a build in a couple of years (fingers crossed on my stock motor)

I just hope to do it on my terms and not on that of my motor's.

I don't drive my car everyday, and my driving habits are pretty conservative for the most part.

Just hoping for the best.

just dont get too happy with it. Remember, blowing your motor doesn always result in a rebuilt. If you blow a hole in your block, then you will kick your own ***. Do a build as soon as you get the money saved up.

trust me I am not wrong on this....

The turbos were originally just called a GT25/35 hybrid. Since they changed the terminology and are now called GT2871. That said, they are not a standard off the shelf 2871.
