Bought TayTay's carbon fiber cubby panel a month back. Finally got around to swapping the gauges into it.

I had a black autometer triple pillar. It is now FS/FT cheap for a oem a pillar without the mounting holes.

With cubby closed. It shuts fine with not snags at all.

So what do ya think?

I may try to start making these panels. Make some for dual 60mm or triple 52mm. Theres just enough room to add buttons and such under the top middle gauge. I even want to make them recessed a bit to allow more clearance. Maybe even a nitrous panel.......

I removed the box from the back of the cubby. It made it easy to run the wires in there and i didnt have to cut it.

and as jamez would say.......im wearing my driving shoes!

the mount fit fine with out modification. I test fit it and knew it was good. Got all the gauges transfered and wired. Had to drill for the buttons/led which was nerve racking. Once that was done, i dropped it into the cubby, predrilled some small holes in my cubby and then used those self tapping screws to mount the panel.

Really had to take into consideration the backside of the lid. Its got a huge bulge where the button is.

 

It looks good, but was there any other way to mount it where you wouldn't have to use the 2 screws. Maybe 2 sided tape...

^i wish they were birkenstocks........too expensive. These are knockoffs ( think rotas). Theyre cheap and you cant tell the difference till your up close. Still comfy and i dont care if i tear them up ( 15 bucks a pair)


i bought the panel used with the holes already drilled...........DS tape might work, maye someone else can try?

 

Nice (as always) DIY-work Chris. Thats a nice alternative to the A-pillar.

of all things i messed up on the relocation.........was the direction of the led leads. (one has to be positive and the other negative to forward bias the npn junction, swtich them around and no current flow = no light)

Youd think id get that part right. I clearly remember it going through my head like this " Does it matter which wire i attach to the signal and which to ground............nah". As an EE major and fairly knowledgeable of led's, i feel ashamed.

looks good, I did something temporary with mine using some nice abs plastic. I mounted mine using industrial adhesive velcro. I mounted 4 blocks, one in each corner with velcro then mounted the panel to the blocks with velcro. It was sturdy but still removeable. I just took it out though as i have a 7" touchscreen there now that displays all my gauges from my utec and wideband.

 

I was worried on Sun. when I saw the Z's interior all taken apart with a million wires exposed but it turned out really good Chris. Those gauges are pretty bright I can see why it was a good idea to relocate.

 

Man i love that! Is this a custom piece or can we purchase something like this online? Inquiring minds want to know! I'd much rather do this than have a triple pod on my pillar.

 

Im hopefully going to start making these pieces. Theyre are definitely custom.

 

that's a new name for Birkenstocks. I used to call them Jerusalem Cruisers or Jesus Joggers.
