Default Pump gas turbo selection.

Hi Guys.

Im new to the VQ world, and i am in the process of building my G35 coupe. Im primarly interested in a pump gas setup. What are your thoughts on dual GT3076's or dual BB 50tim turbos in regard to spool and pump gas potential.

Doug get in here

Regards,

Your max boost and tune will vary on what gas you are using so I don't understand what is gas octane has to do with the turbo selection? You can only run a certain boost and timing advance with pump gas regardless of turbo type.

I haven't done any real research on them, but with a fully built motor, those turbos should be capable of flowing for close to 900-1000whp (they each flow for slightly more than a 60-1). I imagine there would be some lag involved. You'd probably start spooling them up around 3800rpms and reach full boost at 4500-5000 rpms. Just my estimate based on what I know of about the compressor turbine sizing, so it may be off a bit... That's a lot of turbine to push.

I could imagine all of that ending up costing you in the $35k range to build unless you did all of the work yourself.

Rather than jumping to a conclusion as to what turbo you want, you should put together a budget with details on what type of motor build you will be running, and then matching the turbochargers to reach your desired horsepower goals.

In other applications i have found that these two turbos perform very very well in pump gas applications.

I don't think that is entirely accurate. Charged air temps and compressor efficiency play a large role in making power using fast burning fuel such as pump gas no?

Great info.

the motor will be a sleeved 3.5L heads will be unported with cams.

I'm by no means an expert, but from all I have researched if you are set on making power with pump gas you would need your turbo's to be most efficient and optimum mass flow rates in you upper RPM range as you have selected, as you don't have much detonation threshold (gotta keep temperature and boost lower). The trade off is increased lag, as you can't use aggressive tuning to spool up the turbos. I'm sure there are plenty of tuning and design options, but have you considered alcohol/methanol injection? I know a good number of people have had some really good results using this and pump gas, and its pretty inexpensive (particularly compared to the rest of your build). Good Luck!

Absolutely not I will not use any meth. In other applications 2.0L 4 cylinder motors for example. The gt3076 has made 500awhp on pump gas and the 50 trim has as well.
